Carpeting Chemicals?

We are going to replace the old carpeting in one room in the house that we bought. When I was in Canada I read about fire retardant being linked to ADD. Does anyone know anything about this?

Can you avoid putting down carpeting and maybe settle for hard flooring and an area rug? It's much easier to keep the area rug clean and to replace it when it gets dirty. I just power-sprayed one of my area rugs. I hung it over the swing set and sprayed it down, and will bring it in tomorrow. Bye bye dust! (and vomit, which is why it was removed for washing in the first place)

I think all carpeting has off gases? Especially when the carpet is treated with non-stain stuff. Hard floors are much healthier, not sure about vinyl, it might have off gases? Poured concrete looks cool. We had one room of carpet and I replaced it with cork.
