I promised myself I wouldn't be disappointed!

Had my 39 week check in and eventhough I keep saying I won't get checked, my curiousity gets the best of me and I have to know. Well now I do and it's NOTHING. I'm the same as last week and even after all my come and go contractions I would have thought I might have progressed a little bit.

I see a group of four midwives and at todays appointment I met one of the additional midwives they bring on during the holidays to help and I was just wondering if having different people check can cause several different ideas of whats going on in there (with all of them having different hand sizes and what not) The midwife I saw today actually said I was less then I was last week which was 90% efaced, 1 1/2 cm, and -1 station. She told me today that I was 1 cm and only 50% efaced. I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else?

However, in many ways I am relieved because I'm so tired from the holiday festivities along with my sons birthday yesterday too. I don't think I have the energy to have a baby in the next few days. :

I'm not in your ddc, not even pregnant, but wanted to share with you. When my water broke with my first I went in to the hospital(right away because she was 4 weeks early) and by the time I got all checked in and everything, it had been about 1.5-2 hours since my PPROM. They checked me, I was concracting so lightly that I didn't even notice, and at that time I was less than 1 cm dilated, although very effaced, I think over 90%. My daughter was born about 8.5 hours after that exam. You can be dilated and walk around like that for weeks or closed up tight and have the baby later that day! Don't let it get you down.

I stayed at 1 cm dilated & 5% effaced from 36 weeks all the way through 41 weeks with DD1. I literally cried at my 41 wk appointment I was so frustrated at my "lack of progression".

Well, the joke was on me. My water broke at 1 am that night & DD1 was born by 4 the next afternoon.

Sening you lots of labor vibes!

I have heard that there can be a difference in opinion when different people check you to see how dialated you are. Especially since you're only talking about 1/2 cm difference. Look at that on a ruler, it's tiny. And they're feeling it, not looking at it. I would be willing to bet it's the same for effacement.

Vaginal exams are definitely not an exact science, and 1cm and 50% effaced is at least something! I'm usually closed or a fingertip and not effaced at all or hardly at all until I go into "real" labor despite the fact that I usually have days or weeks of strong pre-labor contractions and crampiness that feel like they should be doing something. However, I've had fast labors and quick pushing stages, so a lack of progress during late pregnancy doesn't necessarily mean you're in for a long labor or even that labor is far off. It's really so unpredictable. With my 4th baby my mw checked me late in the afternoon on my due date, and nothing. No dilation, no effacement, and he was high and floating. Well, he was born at home less than 12hrs later after a short 3hr labor!

I just took my only trip to L&D since I was out of town and thought I was leaking fluid and might have a yeast infection starting. The nurse put her 2 fingers through my cervix and moved the baby's head for aminute off my cervix b/c she's that engaged, but then the dr. came in and told me I was closed....Umh, sure honey, I've been between 1 and 2 cm. and like 50-70% effaced for a week now....I don't think it reversed itself, but the DR. didn't like me and my homebirthing anti establishment ways and wanted to disappoint me I think!

I had this long rant about doctors all typed out.But I decided; no, just because some people insist on being closed minded to the things nature intended doesn't mean I have to get on my ... Everytime.
