I read this
http://www.btinternet.com/~aldous/page9.html then got all addicted!
I made a rug with a latch hook which belonged to my nan. It looks like
this
Once you have cut strips of fabric it will speed you up if you can find a rod or similar with a groove in it to wrap the fabric round then cut along the groove to make the shorter lengths. I used the plastic edging of a chessboard given by MIL to my boys and not used (!) it is a foot long length of right angle so its easy to fit the scissors into the gap and cut.
I like the hook better than the
rag rugger (which I also have) becuase you can push it through the hessian the hook the cloth int the hook then as you pull it through it folds in half and you have double thickness. The folded end sticks out of the fabric in one place and the loose ends stick out of another. With the other tool I have trouble opening the 'mouth' while its stuck through the fabric.
I used old t shirts for one rug which has had some abuse but remained intact for 2 years so far! I have a bag full of cut strips from dh's old work shirts ready for another but I've got into knitting.........
