Anyone here use compact flourescents???

I am considering replacing all my halogen bulbs w/ compact flourescents. Anyone here do this??
if yes, have you noticed a change in your electricity bill??
Do you like or dislike the light produced??

I replaced my kitchen bulbs (incandescent) with compact florescent. They work fine. I haven't gotten around to replacing all my lamp bulbs. And I don't have any halogen lights anymore, so I can't compare it to those.

Why not try replacing in one fixture/lamp and see how you like it before doing them all??

I am in the process of changing bulbs to compacts. I'd buy a few different brands before investing. Some brands have truer light, some are slow starters and only get to full light if left on for a bit. I haven't yet noticed the electric bill. I am just "trusting" that it is the right thing to do!

I love them. I recommend switching over gradually (as your bulbs burn out) and being prepared for lights to take a minute or so to "warm up".

Well, I went ahead and replaced them all...
It cost me about $100, but I figure that if they last 5-7 years and cut electricity costs and energy use, then it was a wise investment...
I actually like the light better. It is a bit softer. I don't mind the "warm up" process either, mine seem to only take about 10 seconds to be fully lit...

Now, if I could only afford a front loading washer....

I just wanted to add that we love ours, and our electric bill dropped by about $40/month.

Our electric bill was reduced by nearly 30%!!! My dh is famous for leaving lights on wherever he goes, so these bulbs were a great investment for us. (I still follow him around and turn off lights, though.) We found them on sale and with an energy saving device rebate, so they were cheap, too!

We also gave up on buying new CFLs after they all burned out within months. And we also suspect something about the wiring in our 1925 house as the culpret.
