New tip for travelers

I'm a big fan of Rick Steves. Those of you who don't know who he is, he's a local guy who hosts the show Europe Through the Backdoor on PBS. I think he is a travel guru. Anyhow, one of his suggestions is to pack light.Really light. If you go on one of his trips ( the popular one being 21 days or something) you live out of a backback or very small suitcase. When my dh and I went to Russia for a week, we lived out of a carry on suitcase for the two of us. We were able to store it above our heads. I didnt think we could do it,but we did. At the airport, one of the security handlers who opened our bag said," wow, this is the best packing job Ive ever seen". I think its from all the Tetris I play. Ok ok I'm getting off the track. My new idea is that whenever we go on a trip anywhere and stay at a hotel, I bring back those little soaps or little bottles of shampoo instead of having to buy them. I was always going out to Target and buying more soaps, little things of toothpaste etc and I would go home and find more of it! I already had it. So I now have a rubbermaid box of travel shampoos, toothpaste etc.

I love that!

There is absolutely nothing like being able to pack light. We just went away to a cabin for the holidays and I couldn't believe how much stuff we had. Granted a lot of it was bulky, like cold weather gear. I keep trying to do the travelling lightly thing and I suppose I have improved. One suitcase per 2 people for 7 days sounds awesome!
