Do you have a favorite columnist?

Was just thinking about this. Don't know if I have a particular favorite, but different columnists who move me for different reasons ...

Sometimes a particular column sticks out in my mind. There was a column soon after 9/11 by ?Anna Quindlen? I think, about reading the passenger list on one of the planes that hit the WTC, and reading the names of a husband and wife and their 2yo daughter ... and she pictured in her mind that family, with the 2yo daughter maybe on her first plane flight, so excited, probably seated between her parents ... anyway, that column absolutely seared through me. Expect I will always remember it. At the same time, I don't particularly seek Ms. Quindlen's work out ...

Leon Weiseltier is a remarkable writer, and while I get impatient with him at times, if I see his byline, I'll turn to read right away ...

There are others in my head, but just wondering if anyone else had any who move them (you) particularly ...

I like Anna Quindlen, too ¥I loved her novel, "One True Thing"¤, and I also love Anne Lamott! A bunch of her columns are archived at Salon©com, so I usually read her there©

I always look forward to Paul Krugman's twice weekly column in the Times.

It's funny, some of my favorite columnists I regularly disagree with. But they make their points so well, or write in such interesting style, that I enjoy reading them anyway.

That said, I don't regularly read the paper anymore, anyway. No time. But do visit the NY Times on-line relatively regularly. And our magazine subscriptions were the first to go when the true level of our broke-ness sunk in. *Except* for "The New Republic." Have been subscribing to it ever since I first left my parents' house 20 years ago, and it's just part of my existence.
