Eggplant induces labor?

Last night DH and I went to a friend's holiday party. Our friend's wife has a 6 month old and was telling me that her midwife swears by eggplant for inducing labor. She said she tried it. She had eggplant parm for lunch and sure enough by dinner she was having full blown contractions and delievered early the next day. Other mothers also piped in that they had heard the same thing. (Granted 1/2 of them probably go to the same midwife. Small town.)

Has anyone ever heard this about eggplant?
Does anyone know of anything else that can help induce labor? (Other than hot monkey sex! )

I am sick of being pregnant. This baby needs to come out!

PS - My mom is cooking me some eggplant parm for dinner! Come out and play little baby!

I've heard specifically that eggplant parm from Scalini's sends some women into labor. The only thought as to why that I've heard has to do with the amounts of oregano and basil which might somehow contribute. Personally, it sounds yummy so why not try? I asked my stepmom to bring some home wtonight when she comes back from Atlanta (where Scalini's is) but we'll see if she remembers

I've heard it. I don't think it can just be the eggplant though. It must be something else that's in eggplant parm, or the combination of ingredients. I eat loads of tomato eggplant dip and baba when I'm preg and I assure you it hasn't ever induced my labor.

Maybe it only works if your body and baby are ready? We have a pizza place here and there is a certain type--Spinach and Mushroom deep dish-- that supposedly puts women into labor. I've had it during my pregnancy and it hasn't done a thing, but my friend had it when she was 41w5d and she went into labor the following morning. So...? I think it's like sex, walking, etc...if your body and baby are open to the suggestion, then it *may* just work.

I dunno ladies, eggplant was my biggest pregnancy craving and I made eggplant parm at least once a week for the second two trimesters, and I'm fairly sure I would have carried another couple weeks had I not been induced a day shy of 40 weeks due to scary blood pressure. But it's really really yummy! Hope you have great births!

MMMMM yummy. This is the recipe I found after I posted. We tried it and it was delicious!! However, no contractions yet... well, no more contractions than normal anyhow. We even had an emergency trip to the ER for my daughter's first stiches!! (All coffee tables should be burned!) Just what every 9 month pregnant woman needs an ER visit unrelated to her giving birth!

So far, no regular contractions. Grrrr. : Back to the monkey sex method.

never heard of eggplant doing the trick, but i have heard of pizza kicking you into labor. maybe it's the marinara sauce that does it!

labor inducing food

I've heard that Mountain Mike's "preggo pizza" does the trick. It's not on the menu- you just have to ask for it.
