How high do you turn up the heat?

Assuming you live in a place that needs heat... where do you set it to?

We installed a programmable thermostat and have it set to 60F during the day and 55F at night, and between 11am-1pm it also dips down to 55F just to save a little money. But, it isn't working that way cause we often crank it up to 63F or 65F (manual override of the programming). I don't know if we are just being frivolous or if people usually keep their house warmer than we do. (Both me and DH work from home, so all 3 of us, including DD, are home all day).

Mine might be one of the higher answers, 70 degrees day and night :

We have ours on 70 at night. We would keep it at 65-68, but our DS absolutely will not sleep with covers on, or ANYTHING touching his feet including socks! We co-sleep, so all of us are just lying in the bed in our pajamas with no covers on

During the day we do turn it down to 65-68 depending on how chilly we are feeling that day. Below 65 is just too chilly.

We keep it at 68 all the time. If we get too chilly, I turn it up to 70 for a bit. If we are going to be gone for the day, I turn it down to 65.

We have a programmable thermostat set at 55 at night, 65 from 5:30 am to 10 am, 62 until 6 pm, 68 from 6 pm to 10 pm.

We live in the NE. We set it at 64 at night when we sleep and 66-68 during the day depending on how we feel.

Its set to 60 and it still feels way too warm in some rooms. The 60 degrees is in the center of the house one the first floor. The upstairs gets a little warmer, maybe 65, so we end up opening windows to help regulate. The media room is freezing for some inexplicable reason, I keep meaning to measure but 45 degrees wouldn't surprise me. Otherwise I would just set the temp down to 55 or so because I hate having to open the windows upstairs while I'm running the heat and anything over 60 degrees feels like I might as well be sitting in a boiler room.

I don't have a programable one, but I keep it roughly 65 during the day and night (which is basically only turning the heat on for 30 minutes twice a day to warm it up when I notice it's colder than usual in here).

During the morning (7-9am) and evening hours (7-9pm) I turn the heat up to 68 degrees. For the overnight (9pm - 7am) and mid afternoons I turn it down to 64 degrees.

If we are using the furnace we have it 72-74 and thats cold

If I am heating with wood it between 70-80. Wood heat feels so much warmer.

We keep it at 68 most of the time. Its at 68 now and I'm sitting here freezing!

I will bump it up to 70 sometimes. I'm a person that gets cold easily and can not stand it. I HATE, hate, hate being cold.

I have been trying to remember to turn it down to 65 at night cause dh gets up first in the am and can turn it up before we all get out of bed.
I'm also soooo not a morning person and getting out of bed is hard enough without freezing your tail off at the same time!

When we're gone all day, we put it on 65.

Our apartment is very drafty for some reason...and my son's toes and fingers get ice cold if we have it anywhere below 70. So we usually have it at around 72. Which is high, but I can't deal with icey toes lol.

I keep mine at 69 at all hours.....yet I still get complaints from everyone about being too cold! I guess I'm just hot-blooded!

Between 68-70 all the time during winter. We noticed that dd sleeps better when it's colder, so sometimes we'll even put it down to 67. However, the thermostat has to get to 66 before the heat kicks on.

66 night
68 day

I remember being absolutely shocked when someone did a huge thread on this awhile ago. I thought we were conservative w/our temps but after reading all the replies : I felt HOT.

67 during the day, 65 at night. We all have heated mattress pads, though, so we're nice and toasty during the day. Also, we live in Texas, so many days in the winter the outside air is warmer than the house is.

I hate you all. We live in PA, and it is not even that cold here, but unless the thermostat is on 80 it doesn't feel warm in our home We just bought it in Oct. and our furnace is over 30 years old, so we need a new one. *Sigh* We have so much work to do- the joys of being a homeowner.

I'm most comfortable at about 19 Celcius. From what I can tell on my cheap outdoor thermometer, that's about 67. I'm very hot-blooded, though and keep the girls in pants and socks all day. My husband sleeps in nothing but his underwear and cranks it up to 22 when he goes to bed. I think that's about 71. I put it back down to 20 when I go to bed - 68/69ish but I'd prefer it around 65 at night.

in the summer it is set at 78 and in the winter 68.

67-68 during the day. Off at night and when we leave the house (we have a tiny house and a good furnace; it heats up quickly).

I don't get heating the house at night. With lots of warm blankets and a hat if necessary, we never get cold at night. The house usually goes down to 58-60, or at least that's what it is when we wake up. Nights are colder than days, so it costs more to heat a house at night...

During the summer, we keep it at 80-82, and open windows at night.
