How high do you turn up the heat? - Page 2

61 during the day (63 if it's extra cold or stormy outside)
About 58 at night (lower if dd comes to bed with us)

Mine is set at 75 right now. I think I have a draft somewheres but cannot figure out where it could be. Usually it is between 65 and 70. When we are gone I turn it down to 60.

During the day it's usually set between 66-70, depending on how cold it is out and whether or not there are children running around in only soakers. At night, I usually turn it back to 62, and when we leave, dh usually just turns it off completely.

heat to 74 in winter, I live in a really hot climate and there is no way I'd set mine to 55 I'd be freezing all night and day.

65 all day/night sometimes we override and go up to 67 if we're cold.

60 night / 66 day ...and we just got our gas bill, $275 for one month! I think we'll be turning it down even more. We purchased a used wood stove last spring and thought we'd have that going by now, but we turned out to have chimney issues

58-62 F during the day, depending

off at night. In fact, we sleep with the window cracked open.

Us too. We turn it down to around 63 at night.

Well, if dh is home it is at 68 all the time. On the nights he works I turn it down to 64-66. I could stand it colder, but dh complains and will hardly wear socks or long sleeves

nak...

wow. i will never let dh read this thread. i keep it at 73-74 downdtairs... day and night and 75 upstairs. i am always cold. sometimes I treat myself and turn it up to 78 when I get out of bed.

we keep the basement (playroom) at 65, and the rest of the house at 60. All day and night. We use our fireplace to keep the middle floor warm when its really cold out and love to sleep in chilly beds (great snuggle time!)
If my kids get cold, which is rarely, we put more clothes on, or blankets.
Oh, and some people think having the fireplace can suck the heat out of the room, but we found this that totally cooks the whole middle floor and then some!
Sorry for the shameless plug here but this thing rocks!

amyjeans, thanks for the link! We have a fireplace in the middle of the house, and we are always looking to get it more efficient. I think DH is ordering one as we speak!

I was thinking the same thing.
I'm the worse case yet. I keep it nice & warm at 78. I still get cold even at 78. Especially in the morning. I cant even imagine living in a house below 71. Pediatricians even say that below 75 is too cool for a baby.
Maybe its different for different houses.

???

Laohaire, We don't have a programmable thermostat but our house is about the same as yours. Generally 55F during the day unless it's unusually sunny. We keep the bedroom and playroom set at 50F and the living area set at 55F. Sometimes we turn it up to 60 to get it going and then turn it back down again after a few minutes.

My kids still run around naked even when it's 55F. LOL. DH and I are used to it. Though we try to bump it up a little when we have guests because no one we know keeps our house this cold. We homeschool and are home nearly all the time in the winter.

We have oil heat and are trying to keep the oil bill low.

We expect to move within a few years to a wood-heated house and I imagine we'll keep it quite a bit warmer than our oil-heated house.

We leave it at 60 day and night, but only in the entrance, living room and our dd's bedroom. It's completely off in the media room (computers, tv and other electronics keep it warm enough), the kitchen (we cook alot), the bathrooms and our bedroom (we cosleep with our ds so with 3 bodies in a smallish room, it's warm enough).

We all wear warm slippers, sweaters and often in the evening, I'll wear a scarf.

I need to correct myself. Alex saw this and corrected me - we have the AIR on set to 72-75. We only turn the heat on if it gets really cold and then it's set to 68.

67 day
60 night

I might be able to handle a couple degrees cooler during the day. I don't think the dog could handle it any colder at night, he has to wear jammies as it is .

72 degrees but we have a newborn here
