Another (related) link/article I LOVE is, "why empowered women choose not to circumcise" by Aubrey Taylor.

Just came across this, thought I'd bump it up for those who haven't seen it/listened.

The dignity of the human person extends to their parts...

I believe that circumcision is a human rights issue that ties in with the idea that human life is inherently valuable and not only must we protect the innocent from being killed or harmed, we must also respect the integrity and sanctity of each person's body once he or she is born. So we must always respect the dignity of the human person and part of doing that is respecting a person's right to all their parts.

I hope I don't get in touble for saying this. I tried to word it very carefully so as to not offend or cause heated debate. Guess I'll find out....

I don't call myself a feminist. I lean more towards the right in terms of politics and social issues and the such. I'm active in the pro-life movement and it's my opinion that groups on both sides of the fence (those liberal AND conservative) do not give the circumcision issue much attention. It's unfortunate and I hope that changes. It's still one of those things that has not really hit mainstream attention. I could be wrong, but it seems that way to me.

That is absolutely beautiful and I agree with every single word.
I am more to the left, I am anti-abortion, except just a very few, few medically justified cases for all those same reasons.

I think we are watching the emergence of awareness going very mainstream right now. All the AIDs/HIV studies will eventually be debunked- then what? At least people are beginning to understand. Surgical removal of a body part of an infant for supposed future medical benifit is either going to gain popularity and other procedures will be added, or people are going to drop it completely. At least people are starting to talk about it.

Just a reminder to avoid the abortion debate here.

I think it's wonderful that we all can come together on the issue of intactivism, regardless of our political or spiritual leanings. With regard to feminism, I've always liked the phrase, "Feminism is the radical notion that women are people." To me, it's about equality, not superiority.

So, Infantism would be the radical notion that infants are people. I like that. Infantist.

How about humanist...the radical notion that people are people?

Yeah, but that's already been taken and has enough issues attatched

Great thread. I just received a document from a Canadian lawyer, Suzanne Bouclin, from the Univ of Ottawa who wrote a dissertation on the Legal and Ethical Issues Surrouncing C. When I googled her name she comes up as a strong, Canadian feminist. The paper's long so haven't finished it but the feminist arena is really important.
