March DDC but already dilated/effaced

Eek! I've been feeling BH cx for the past week but a couple of days ago I began to have really strong vaginal pressure/twinges and some menstrual like cramping. I had a cerclage put in at 22 weeks due to an incompent cervix and just this past Thursday I saw my peri and everything looked great, my cervix was measuring long and was closed.

After 2 days of the cramps/pressure/BH, I broke down and called my OB and went to L+D. Turns out I'm 50% effaced and dilated 1 cm. I have another checkup at the end of the week.

Due to the IC, how likely am I to progress to full out labor/dilation and how soon? I'm only 31 weeks 4 days right now so it's still a bit early for baby.

Since my cx are irregular and not too strong yet, I haven't been put on terb but I'll probably be told to try a steroid shot. This is my first pg so I have no idea of how quickly this might progress.

So to all you experienced mamas......will I continue to dilate/efface? Is it likely that I could stay at 1 or 2 cm for a while? I have no idea what to expect!

I'm sorry you've got cervical changes happening already. That must be really worrisome

Unfortunately these things vary from mom to mom, and even pregnancy to pregnancy for any given mom. You could continue to progress, or you could remain as you are until you're full term. There's no way of really knowing. The only thing I could suggest is to pay attention to your body and if something doesn't feel right, call your doctor asap!

Other than that, continue to take good care of yourself, stay well hydrated (a gallon of water a day is what my MWs recommend) which will help ease the BHs plus keep ya healthy, and rest as much as you can. Good luck... sending you and your baby stay-put vibes!

Sending more 'Baby Stay Put' vibes to you. In addition to staying well hydrated, it probably won't hurt you to rest as much as you can. What did your doctor tell you to do? Be sure to keep us posted.

I have incompetant cervix and started dialating pretty early on, around 32 weeks. At 34 weeks I went into PTL and was 2 cm and 60% effaced. Thankfully they were able to stop things quickly. I am now 38 and a half weeks, hanging out at 4.5 cm, still 60% effaced and a baby at 0 station with no signs of labor anywhere.

My suggestion would be not too stress out too much and if you do start contracting go in right away.

my first pregnancy i was 50% and 1cm until about 35 weeks, then i was 75% and 3-4cm and stayed that way until i delivered. so it does happen.

Thanks mamas for all the support. I had a follow up at the end of last week and my doctor thinks I'm still progressing so we're going to try a steroid shot just in case.

I really didn't want to move towards drugs considering everything that's already happened in this pregnancy but if this little guy does come early I want to give him the best start possible.

I'm going to keep trying to hold this baby in though!

I don't have any advice but I wish you the best of luck! I hope your babe stays put until March!
