Book Suggestion?

Hi! What referenc/general info book would you suggest for us---my dh and I conflicted about unschool vs. more traditional approaches to home education. Is there a great book you might suggest? I'm currently reading Creating Learning Communities edited by Ron Miller and have just ordered several books by John Holt--also about to get Dumbing Us Down.....so, I'm really leaning toward unschooling. I would love any input!!! I look forward to getting to know y'all!

Warmly,

Amy

I like The Unschooling Handbook by Mary Griffith. It doesn't really compare traditional homeschooling vs. unschooling....but it does offer a nice look into how unschooling works (even broken down by subject), real life experiences from unschooling families, and explains how to use the whole world as your child's classroom.

It's well designed and a quick read, which I find can be helpful if one is using books to try and convince (& convert) an unwilling dh!

Have you also looked at www.unschooling.com? They have a ton of articles available on unschooling that you can print out. The message boards are great too.

Good luck!

Hope you have better luck with John Holt's stuff than I do. It was dry and hard to read. A good sleeper. Ok I know I'm in hot water with some for saying that but it is my NSHO.

I going to try CLE. It seems to be simple and strait forward. Here is a link: Christian Light Education

Mother and their arcives has been a wealth of information for me.
