questions about my in tact toddler - Page 2

Update:
We've been using a yeast cream (just externally, but being sure to cover his foreskin and his testicles), and the rash is almost completely gone. My completely non-technical conclusion would be that the regular rash developed into a yeast rash (which both my kids have had problems with on and off) and the yeast itself just got in the folds of his foreskin/testicles.
Of course, that doesn't explain why his poops are burning his butt. The rash and the FTT all started before he had cows milk. I can say with 99.9% confidence that "FTT" has nothing to do with allergy in my family. My daughter was "FTT", went through the blood tests, and there's nothing wrong. My son is following the same growth curve. We've read that their growth curve is sometimes called "Constitutional Growth Delay" and is just a variation on normal. We're pretty defensive about it now, because of dd being forced through the tests. We feed them high-fat diets, which is part of the reason I introduced cows milk, but beyond that we don't treat them for anything because we believe it's just their natural growth tendency. I have a 9 yr old step-daughter who also followed this growth curve, and is now completely healthy, though still very small and thin (about 50 lbs).

Anyway, just to keep checking, we haven't given him any cows milk in a few days, though we did not take away cheese or yogurt because yogurt in particular does help him keep his weight up, and I know they are less allergenic than the milk itself. He also still nurses once or twice a day, and he is gaining weight, just slowly, which is his normal rate.

Anyway, I'm going to figure that we outsmarted this rash finally, but that I may still need to do a little more searching to root out the cause.

To answer your questions, he has only ever been retracted far enough for me to see the tip of the head of his penis, and that was just the other day. It appeared completely normal, and he didn't complain at all, it seemed like he thought it felt good. His previous doctor would just examine the opening, we never saw his penis.

My son has "constitutional growth delay" which basically means that he just grows slower. There's nothing wrong with these kids. I did one round of blood tests to check his hormones with him and that was enough for me. He was diagnosed with CGD through an x-ray of his hand and wrist which shows that while he is 10 years old his bone age is about 6 1/2 years old. He'll continue to grow into his late teens and possibly early twenties and will eventually get to a normal height for his genetics. So anyway just wanted to show you some support for your small children. I would keep him away from the ped. and follow your instincts. They can't force you to test him no matter what label they want to give him.

Glad to hear his rash is doing better. I hope you can figure out what is causing the diaper rashes soon.
