Favorite Humorous Childrens Books!

Ok I'll admit I have loved childrens books long before I got preggers.
Still I have a greater interest in them now.
My dh and I just read one of the most clever children's books
it's called "Toys Go Out: being the adventures of a knowledgeable stingray,
a toughy little buffalo, and someone called plastic."
We enjoyed reading it so much I had to share.
It has adorable illustrations and chapter titles like "The Possible Shark"
and "The Terrifying Bigness of the Washing Machine".
It's a nice length at just over a 100 pages.

I love also love the picture book authors Mo Willems and David Shannon.

So who are your favorite childrens picture book or short story authors?
And what childrens books never fail to entertain you?
There are soooooooo many childrens books out there I want to find the
ones that will entertain both of us. Since I do realize that the favorites
will just have to be read over and over and.......:

So many favorites:

Beware of Boys by Tony Blundell has been read at least 100 times over the years, very clever and funny!

Strega Nona by Tomie dePaola a classic, loved by all of us.

Anything by Don and Audrey Wood

We especially love The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear. Also The Napping House.

My babies loved to hear Nursery Rhymes, and since I knew them so well I would recite them in the car to keep them happy in their car seats.

Happy Reading,

wow, so many!

Among more recent picture books we've really liked Officer Buckle and Gloria, Bad Kitty (Nick Bruel), The Day the Babies Crawled Away, and Dogzilla. Also, anything by Daniel Pinkwater is a guaranteed hit. I'm especially fond of Irving and Muktuk. He does chapter books too.

King Bidgood's in the Bathtub

The king's in the bathtub and he won't get out!! EVERYONE in the castle tries to entice him out, without success. It is the child, the king's page, who finally figures out how to get the king out of the tub! Great pictures, and VERY funny story.

My son loves Dog Breath by Dav Pilkey. Bark George by Jules Feiffer. And he likes the Mr. Putter and Tabby beg reader books by Cyntha Rylant.

And I really like all the Skippyjon Jones books, the latest is Mummy Trouble.
I know there was a thread a while back, and I think a few didnt like her books, but we really really do. The tongue twisting is fun and throwing some Spanish in here and there is great. Its just super silly.
