Whine...overdue and have a cold...should I worry about baby?

Obviously I'm overdue....anyone left *has* to be, right? I'm only 4 days overdue....but I have a cold I'm on about day 4 of the cold, and last night was so difficult. Prodromal labor is getting strong (contractions that are actually painful), and between the contractions, the stuffed nose, the dehydration from mouth-breathing....I just couldn't sleep So now I have a cold and am exhausted :

I am a bit worried that I will have the babe while still contagious. I plan to breastfeed, of course. And I imagine that babe is getting antibodies now, in the womb. Should I be concerned?

I am also worried that I won't go into labor until cold is past (maybe another week?). My MIL is here to help us, but has been here 2.5 weeks, and family "back home" is pressuring for her to come back--because they need her for childcare and FIL won't go to his dr appts without her :. So we bought her a return flight for the 12th, feeling confident babe would be here by then. Now that I am sick....I'm not so confident.

Of course, I am also concerned about laboring with a head cold. I feel like crap, and very tired. Not ideal, by any means.

Ah, whine.

I don't have any advice, except to rest as much as you can!

Maybe talk to your midwife about your concerns related to the cold... as for the rest, I hope you feel better and have your babe safely in your arms soon!

I came down with bronchitis when I hit 40 weeks and was put on antibiotics. Babe didn't come till 42 weeks on the dot. I was still sick when he was born (antibiotics didn't work) and they switched my antibiotics to something that did work. On top of that, DH and DD both came down with it too right after he was born.

Long story short, babe is 2 weeks old today and hasn't had as much as a sniffle <touch wood>. My ped and my FP both said that he'd likely be fine since 1) he got antibodies while in utero and 2) I was/am bfing. The ped said she would have been really worried if I wasn't bfing. So I'd try to relax and not worry too much - I'm sure your babe will be OK.

Thank you for the replies. I am feeling a lot better now, day 6 past edd. I am feeling much more up to labor. And it is reassuring to hear that other babies were born when mama was sick, and stayed healthy!
