For me, if I just dust without some sort of cleansing lotion, it spreads dust around or if I get the dust only, it doesn't get the ingrained dirt, dust, and particles. Leaving the grit can scratch wood. Wooden furniture should be polished at least once a year. I also have asthma, so I spray my wooden furniture a little to get the junk off (it gets rid of any food drips, dog drool or whatever too).
Here's what I use - the ratios vary. I can't remember what I used last, but here are the ingredients. I may have used more vinegar and less water (if I used water at all):
Furniture Polish (multi-purpose) recipe
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 cup warm water
Drops of Orange and Lemon Essential oil
Mix well. Store in a spray bottle. Shake vigorously before using (it separates). After applying, rub dry with a soft, clean cloth.
I suppose you can put 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1/4 cup water, and the drops of essential oils. See what works for you. Whatever I mixed last year is still going for me. I don't have to spray very much.
Here's another recipe, but I haven't tried it:

1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup lemon juice
Pour oil and lemon juice into a squirt bottle or jar. Stir to combine.
To use, dip dust cloth or rag into oil. Blot the oil by folding the cloth together, and then dust your furniture. Leaves a beautiful finish!
