Wool, wool - which kind to use?

I am pretty new to CD'ing and so far I have just been using pockets but I live in AZ and I want to make some wool covers for when it gets HOT out. I just am not that great of a knitter and my dd would probably be out of dipes before I finished one. So I want to sew one, but I am confused on all the different types of wool fabrics/blends. What can I use? I want it to be soft and breathable. Can someone PLEASE help me? And anyone have recommendations of stores I can buy the fabric at? :

Oh, and what is felting? Could I do that instead?

Most wool covers are made from wool jersey, wool interlock, wool flannel, or wool sweaters. You can buy the first three from good fabric stores or yahoo coops, I can find wool flannel at Hancock's for example. Look for a high wool content, 100% is best IMO. Most mamas find wool sweaters to convert to covers at thrift shops. I wonder how good the selection would be in Arizona though. If you do go with sweaters, look for merino or lambswool, or cashmere is lovely. If it isn't soft as a sweater, it won't be that soft as a cover.

Wool fabrics are often felted before they are sewn up, the felting process makes the fabric more dense and thick, but still quite breatheable.

If you are at the fabric store and the bolt says "wool blend", you probably don't want it. I go for the bolts that say "100% wool". You can do the bleach test on the blends if you see a blend you like. Get a swatch (usually free) and cover it with bleach. Whatever dissolves is wool. If it's all gone, it's 100%. If it's half gone 50%, etc.
