My children (now 27, 24, and 19) loved the Serendipity books. I checked on the author's website and he has now written over 350 books! His books are contain moral lessons and some are about disabilities or being different. I think the author is blind. We had the whole series and have kept them all for my children's children.

I haven't read through the whole thread to see if they're already mentioned, but she might like the Jenny Cat Club series.
