TOTALLY off-topic vent (ebay)

Okay, I've warned you this is completely off topic. But I'm so pissed right now, I need to vent to someone. You guys are closest

I just bought this sewing machine on ebay for $6.50. The seller lives in Yankton, SD. I live in Crofton, NE. 10 miles apart. I am in Yankton on nearly a daily basis. (In fact, my bf/baby's dad lives there.)

After I bid on it, I realized where the item was located, and wrote the seller asking if I could pick it up, if I won. He wrote me back and said shipping only. After I won, I wrote him again, saying that while I would happily meet him at the Post Office, where he would have to go to send it anyway, I am not going to pay $30 to have a sewing machine re-routed to Sioux Falls, SD and then Norfolk, NE before it is sent to me. It's 15 mins away!

The seller REFUSES to allow me to pick up this item. He is INSISTING that I must pay $30 to have it SHIPPED to me.

I am SO pissed, and all these prengnancy hormones running thru me right now are NOT helping!

Okay, thanks for humoring me

ETA: The more I think about it, the more pissed I get. The way I see it, he deliberately is charging too much for shipping so as to get rich off the damn thing!

Hhmmm, I'm not really sure who is right. It took me a good 10 minutes to realize NE was Nebraska, I thought you meant Hew Hampshire. I'm sitting here thinking there is no flippin way they are 10 minutes apart. Oh boy, time to go home...

That does seem ridiculous, particularly since you're offering ot meet in a public place! It's not like you want to come to his house or anything. Is $30 the actual amount it costs to ship the machine or is he really inflating the price? I HATE when people super-inflate shipping costs on ebay :P

Still, $36 for a sewing machine is a pretty good deal, all things considered

I told the guy I was willing to meet him at the PO or any other place of his choosing, at any time that was convienent to him. I'm even willing to not actually MEET him at all; if he wants me to pick it up off his door-step or by the swing-set in the park, I'm game. I offered to pay $10 for the machine for the trouble of meeting me.

I just did a quick calculation on usps.com of the shipping. Based on 25 lbs, PRIORITY (which I would NOT get) is $17.36. Parcel, which I would use, is $8.36.

IF it were a 50 lb machine, which I'm pretty certain it is not, it would then be $30.50 priority. And $13.14 Parcel.

Knowing this just makes me more irked.

To a normal person, $36 is not too bad for a machine. Except I don't NEED another sewing machine. I have 6. I'm just a sucker for old sewing machines, and couldn't resist one for $6.

I haven't bought much off ebay but I'm pretty sure there is a way to complain about inflated shipping costs. I'd complain.

I stopped buying stuff from ebay because there is no control on the shipping charges. I also got negative feedback from someone for a totally stupid reason. (She insisted that I hadn't disclosed that the hems were cut off a pair of jeans, I would have refunded her but she posted the negative feedback before contacting me and AFTER I gave her positive feedback). I am much more happy with the TP That really sucks though!

: I'm sorry the seller isn't cooperating...

I rarely buy off ebay anymore for that reason (inflated shipping) also. It is possible that he is not shipping the item, perhaps it would be drop shipped to you. And you really should've looked at the shipping cost first.
