Penile infection?

My 2.5 yr old babe is my first uncirc'ed boy. He started complaining
tonight during his bath that his penis hurt. Upon closer inspection,
it appears red and slightly swollen and tender to the touch. It also
has a yellow-green pus on the tip. It doesn't bother him to go to the
bathroom. Thoughts? Of course his insurance ended on Monday. Sigh.
If anyone has had experience with this and can point me in the right
direction. I probably need to take him to the doc, but if it can be
treated at home, that would be my preference. Thanks!

PS... I put some Tea Tree Oil on it right before bed, if that matters.

Elizabeth (who will cry if one more person has to go to the doctor this
week!)

I would just keep an eye on it for a day or so, personally. It might be some separation trauma, and mostly these things clear up on their own. Lots of nakey time, make sure his hands stay clean and his fingernails are well-trimmed, maybe add some Vit C to his diet to boost his immune system.

I wouldn't put TTO directly on it as TTO is very strong and shouldn't be applied to mucous membranes. Maybe a little TTO in the bath, and/or a baking soda bath.

If he's not feverish and is feeling fine, I would hold off on taking him to the doc. If you do take him, a) don't allow anyone to retract him even a little bit, and b) make sure they culture any discharge before prescribing anything.

Best of luck!

My oldest son (8yr) has never had any inflamation but twice this has happened to my youngest son (nearly 5yr). I asked him if he was able to pull his skin back and he said he wasn't.
He had no other symptoms except for on his penis, so no raise in temp.. just redness, inflamation & pus, discomfort.
I added salt to his bath, a few large handfuls. Within 2 days it was back to normal. Bath twice a day.
TTO is a fantastic but I agree that it is too strong to apply topically.
If its pure then a few drops in a small bath is all that is needed, if its dilute then a capfull or few.
TTO can over dry a wound.

Maybe up his fluid intake too? Urine can be cleansing, maybe wash away what evers up there?
And 2nding heaps pantsfree time.

Ahhh! I put one drop directly on his penis... should I do something to get rid of it? I hope I didn't make it worse. Ok.. I will watch it... do naked time and baths with TTO. Thanks ladies!

If it is seperation trauma it will resolve on its own within 24-48 hours if it still isnt better then a culture should be done to find out what if any bacteria is present and be treated accordingly.

A (full) bath with a few shakes of baking soda and 2-3 drops of TTO. Give him some toys, plop him in, let him play until he's bored with it.
