Have you ever heard of this? My nephew contacted H. Flu and then got meningitis from the hospital when he was born and I was wondering when the most likely time he contacted it could be. :sigh

Haemophilus (that is what you mean by H flu?) is spread by aerosol (coughing and sneezing) enters via the nasal/mouth mucosa. It's unlikely that the circ had anything to do with it. Doesn't make the circ less wrong, but I would be surprised if there was a link.
Hope bubba is recovering.

You could say that a circ indirectly increases the chances of getting airborne hospital acquired infections because of the increased time in hospital.
Yes, Haemophilus.
I read an article that it could live in the genital area, so I was thinking it might be an easy way for the bacteria to get into his blood stream if someone sneezed or something during his circ.
Thanks for the info!

Nosocomal (spelling?)(hospital acquired) infections are apparently quite common. There are many germs hanging around in hospitals.

If we want to talk about circ as an indirect cause then one shouldn't over look the effects of stress onthe immune system. Also if it interupts BF then the LO isn't getting antibodies present in BM.

There would have been so many factors present. just being in a hospital in the first place. Stress from such a traumatic prcedure. Is he even breastfed? Received any formula? It is probably impossible to locate the 'real' cause kwim? health and sickness are so complex. My first thought was that it was obvious that the organism entered through the wound. But my DH who is a doctor thinks that is not really possible. It's probably likely that the organism entered in the 'usual' fashion via the mouth or nose of a vulnerable little person made more vulnerable by various insults including circ and hospitalisation. ):
