Okay. So I went to school with this girl from k-8 and just recently we've very lightly touched base through myspace and facebook.com. I invited her to an LLL meeting because she was pregnant, but she was living in NC and thanked me for the offer. Her plan was to breastfeed for a year but she ended up with an unplanned c-section and a baby with jaundice. (She just had the baby this week, sorry forgot to mention). She just wrote the birth story on facebook and was very sad about it all. The baby had been getting bottles of formula because he wouldn't nurse (probably due to have bottles while she was out of it). Anyways, she's pumping milk and formula feeding right now. I offered her the contact info to LLL saying that it was not to late to re-establish a nursing relationship and also some kind words with a link to ICAN. She has her contact number on facebook page and I was thinking if she responds back to my note that I may call her? What would you do in this situation? I really want to offer her some support, even though I'm at a distance. Would you call? Ideas?

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

I would just go ahead and call her. Be sympathetic and offer some encouragement, and sort of build up to the breastfeeding topic. Just mention that you are a veteran breastfeeder and know people who might be able to help her if she's willing, that perhaps breastfeeding could help her heal, etc. and then offer the information in a non-threatening way.

Where does she live in NC? Our LLL leader here (I live in Goldsboro, but the leader lives in Greenville) is awesome and would do anything she could to help your friend if she wanted the help. I know there are 3 different meetings a month in 3 different cities, not to mention the ones in Raleigh.
I would definetly call her and work up to BFing like a pp mentioned. I think mentioning that working tword BFing with no suppliments could help her heal from her tramatic birth.
*sorry for the really bad spelling... I'm really tired with a toddler sleeping on me.
