More of a wool question

But I figure diaper makers are the ones to talk to about making wool supersoft.

I've finally discovered Merino, so I was brave and ordered some swatches of wools from Denver fabrics. Tell me all about things to do to wool to get rid of the prickles.

(I've already washed them vigorously by hand with hot water (just water) to see how they shrink--my hands smell like .)

The wool I've gotten from Denver Fabrics hasn't been prickly. I'm surprised that your merino is prickly. I usually get wool flannel yardage or wool knit or interlock. They've all been nice and soft.

To make wool softer, I like to use hair conditioner in a rinse, then lanolize. Or often lanolizing alone is enough to make it buttery soft. It is better to condition and lanolize after sewing though!

That's just it, Denver fabrics didn't specific wool type. "100% wool" is not helpful when everything but merino and cashmere is prickle city.

What I *really* want is some of that Australian supersoft merino fabric, but that seems to only be available in commercial quantities to manufacturers at the moment.

The projects I'm thinking of require a woven, non-flannel, fabric. But for diapers, I'll definitely try some swatches of the flannel, knit, and interlock.

Ah, so I need to find someone with stuff for lanolizing so I can try it out on the swatches. Thanks!
