With 10 days to go to my EDD (and that is my later EDD, my earlier one is 1/9!!) I am feeling totally unprepared. My last day of work was Friday and we had a surprise birthday party for DH's 30th today. I am done with "out of the house" commitments and now have time to do the last few things. It's not that I am not "ready" we've got all the clothes/diapers washed, bag mostly packed, etc. but I feel totally unprepared to have a newborn in the house! We are no where on names (just bought Baby Name Wizard yesterday), don't have firm plans for DD while we are in labor, haven't done a big grocery shopping, etc. I have gone from wishing that labor to start, to hoping that I have a few days more!

With DD, I could have had her at 35 weeks and been totally ready! I had everything done, set, ready to go, etc. This time, it's like it just occured to me that we are really having a baby, SOON!

Are you ready? It's what, the 7th, so just about all of our mom's should be at least 37 weeks now. Crazy : Where did all those months go!

Some days I feel ready; but some days I just want to keep the little baby inside of me for a lot longer. I'm at roughly 38 weeks and my labor preparatory symptoms are not too steady. Some days I have lots of contractions, some days none at all. I'm hoping for another week or two at least because we're trying to get our kitchen completed and this is no small feat. After the kitchen is completed, which should be on the 12th or 13th, I think I will go on a manic cleaning binge and then I'll be ready.

im totally ready!! i think anyone can think of things that they could do...but i want this girl out!!!! next week i will be looking for things to keep me occupied i think - like going to buy some more rrl to make tea as i have been od'ing on the stuff for the past week. i guess i can do my dishes -

I have reached the point of having planned for all that is plannable, and being physically uncomfortable enough that I want her out rather than in, even knowing how much work it is.

I'm still not doing anything active to encourage her to come out, though. I'm only 37 weeks, and feel like she might need to cook. I do tell her constantly that we're ready to meet her, though, and that as soon as she wants to come...

I'm ready- probably because I was due 1/4! I thought 2nd babies came closer to their due date- and we know it's very accurate. Dh's 2 wk vacation ended as of today too.
It's much harder to be "ready" with a little one already in the house though. Even cooking casseroles to get ahead was challenging!

I really believe that your mental readiness has a lot to do with when Baby is actually born. I am not really ready, which is funny b/c physically I am *incredibly* uncomfortable/yucky. I still have some organizing to do, I have to wash clothes and diapers, and I want to get a cute haircut. And my mother is only coming on the 18th (that may get pushed up though if I feel birth is imminent).

I don't have extra food or groceries -- and I am not sure I feel like planning that, either! I will just let DH sort that out.

Something to keep in mind: With my DS, my MW had *just* suggested EPO insertion at night. One night, I got up to pee pee, and went back to bed thinking -- "Oh, Drat! I forgot to do the EPO today." Immediately, I was like, "Oh, well, I will go into labor when I go into labor." And 2 seconds later, my water broke. And 6 hours later, DS was here! So, I try to remember how strongly the mind affects all this!

I Am So Ready!

I am physically so uncomfortable and want to be not pregnant. But I have things that I would like to have done that are not yet: repaint the changing table (got very scuffed up with dd), assemble crib and figure out how to sidecar it, pack bag for hospital, keep house straightened up a little, clean carpet on back porch (it's basically just a path from the outer back door to the inner back door and has gotten incredibly dirty since winter began). We also have a cat that we rescued living on that back porch. Initially it was our intention to find her a home in a no-kill shelter. I called every single one in 6 area codes (within probably 1.5 hours drive) several times and no room. We decided to keep her, because I couldn't bare the thought of taking her to Animal Control (she's about nine years old and only kittens or young cats get adopted fast enough from AC); well, then when we decided to keep her, we discovered she had a skin infection that could be contagious so she's been on the porch for 2.5 months now. I think it's clear now (taking her to vet today to confirm), but I had wanted to do the introductions to our 2 other cats well in advance of the baby's birth, because introducing a new cat to existing household cats can be a little stressful (one of our inside cats is a hisser, the other a scaredy-cat hider--which we discovered when we fostered a 2-lb. kitten for a week for the animal shelter), but I guess you can't always plan things perfectly. (I wish my non-animal-loving mom would also shut up about "why are you doing this right when the baby is going to be born? Can't you take her to a shelter?") I'm hoping that having spent a few months on opposite sides of the back door will have helped them start to get used to the scents of each other.

Yes, I'm ready. Spent all last weekend washing clothes and getting supplies set up in an organized manner. Stocked up on food this past weekend. I'm in the safe zone now, baby has dropped a bit... and I'm getting hardly any contractions at all. I get them when I'm shopping... maybe this little one likes to shop! LOL I still have 3 weeks to my due date, and I'm normally not antsy about waiting at all, but it would be *so* nice to have a small baby for once that would actually be able to wear the smaller baby clothes for longer than a day or two. My last one was 10 lbs 11 oz... so I know I can do it, but it would just be so nice to have a wee one.

All I'm doing to encourage baby is wrapping my belly every day (my muscles are shot) to keep baby positioned nicely on the cervix. DH is too tired for sex (14 hour days will do that to a person), even if we could figure out the logistics. Sigh. So, we wait. We're supposed to get a little snow on Thursday, maybe Murphy's Law will kick in and baby will come with the snow, since that would mean DH is supposed to be at work by 4am to help figure routes....

I'm hoping to deliver sometime this week.

Well, I was totally ready last week, except for finishing baby's quilt. But then I got one wicked case of Sinusitus and have been up coughing up yuk all night every night for the last 5 days. My ribs and ab and back muscles are so sore and jarred, I think I would like to wait for another week until I'm completely healed up and my body has had time to recover. I had milk production problems last time, and it was almost always when I was tired / dehydrated / stressed out that my production would tank. So I'm willing to wait until my body is doing a bit better. I think my body agrees, because I was getting prelabour symptoms last week, but as this cold got worse they dropped right off.

Yeah, I want to know how you all are actually doing it! My belly is seriously so huge, I can't figure out how we would even get that close to each other. I also seriously doubt it would produce any results for me (well, there would be the sperm deposited near the cervix and that does help, right?) but isn't it orgasm that causes the production of oxytocin? I think I'd be so uncomfortable that wouldn't be a remote possibility for me!

I thought so too, but we've managed to figure it out twice in the recent past, and it was really nice and worth the effort and pretty comical, too. One time was with me lying on my side with a pillow under my belly, kind of like how I sleep every night, and DH in front of me (he doesn't really like the spooning thing). And once was with me on top, which I thought would be unmanageable, but it worked out just fine!

I felt kind of like this the first time around. One thing I found helpful to remember is that babies start out with very simple needs -- food, clean diapers, warmth, sleep, love. Their needs become more complicated only slowly, giving you plenty of time to adjust. It's sort of the ultimate in on-the-job-training.

Am I ready for baby #2? Yes. I feel as if I am just holding but i also think there is something I have forgotten to do and that is why baby is just hanging out. (Plus I am only 39 weeks on Wednesday.) My mom arrive wednseday and DS has his music classes restart on Wednseday.

I hesitate to do anything to 'help' baby arrive as i want to be sure baby picks his/her own time.

Sometimes I wish I could hand over the eviction notice though!

39 weeks tomorrow and NOT ready!! I have nested...we have plenty of meals frozen, clothes and dipes are washed and ready, my "homebirth nest" is fluffed and ready to go. My problem? Our bathroom!!!!! We have one potty, downstairs...The tile around the tub is in the middle of getting it's second round of grout (they used the wrong kind the first time). We have plywood floor, they still need to tile. They still need to install the potty and the sink. I could care less at this point if the carpenter ever installs the shelving and if it gets painted, I just want a working shower, potty and sink!!!! Oh, and how could I forget the most important? Our old water heater can't even fill our new whirlpool tub with enough hot water so the new one is about halfway ready (they're running a bunch of new piping). That should be done Wednesday.

I am trying not to panic but I had such a beautiful dream of my homebirth and it did not include having the baby on the dining room floor so that I can be close to the only working toilet in the house!!! I have gone two weeks overdue with all three of our other babies so that might save me. But I'm so uncomfortable I'd really rather not go overdue!:

Someone please send me some finished bathroom vibes!
