Do people really put up with this...

... or are we doing something wrong?

Our normally-cloth-diapered baby is in disposables right now because our washing machine and hot water supply are on the blink. We have had at least one leaky poopy diaper every day. We had one leaky poopy diaper in nine weeks of cloth diapering. Are disposies really so leaky? Should we try a different size? He's at the upper end of the weight range - but still fitting comfortably into clothes marked "up to 11 lbs" even though he weighs at least 13. Any other pointers?

Not in your DDC but saw your post and popped in....

Sposies suck!!! That's why people who use them are always talking about blowouts LOL. However, if you size up one size you might find you fare a bit better.

PS My daughter was born Halloween 2004!

Getting the right fit depends more on your DS's build, for instance my Ds is 28lbs and if I went by the weight on the box he would wear a size 4 but he fits best in a size 3 because he is slim and tall (35"). So try the smaller size, I have found that Huggies Supreme fit him best and they are unscente, I also like Seventh Generation but they run larger and I can't get then all the time.
Good Luck!

As a sposie user I have had many problems with leaky diapers. I found that Pampers Baby Dry work the best for me. I've been using them for a few months and have only had 1 leaky diaper (just the other day) and it was pee. Of course, dds poop is more solid now...but I still like them the best.

We are temporarily in disposables too. The boys have a strange rash that is probably detergent related and we can't get rid of it while they are in the cloth. We have not had a single blow out or leak of any kind in 3 weeks of using them. We are using the 7th generation and the size smalls are 8-14lbs. (sigh) i am hoping to be back in cloth 100% this week, but untangling the various possible causes of this rash is infuriating when I have 2 babies to cure and no time to think/do anything about the causes.: Anyway, good luck fixing your leaks.

nother sposie mom here

I think try a size up. I like the regular old huggies best. A neighbor gave us some no name diapers which she did not need, in the same size, and they just did not work for us.

We use sposies when we are out and they suck so far Always leaks and blow outs. We actually put a diaper cover over the sposies because they are so unreliable.

I've tried the Huggies and the Tushies...not happy with either. I called 7th generation and asked them to send me a sample before I buy those. We'll see.

I briefly used sposies while we battled a wicked yeast rash and did double duty stripping on all our cloth. Same problem: blowouts galore.

You know I was really dumb sometimes when my first son was born. We cloth diapered after the first few weeks but I was "scared" to use cloth overnight and "scared" to use cloth when we were out all day. Then one day on a car trip my son had a blowout TWICE and I thought, "Hmm...this never happens when he's in cloth. Maybe I should, um, start using cloth when we go out???" I think blowouts are much, much more common with disposables...perhaps depending on your cloth diapering system. We use prefolds and covers and on the occasion when poop leaks out of the actual diaper it's always caught by the cover. Much easier to swap out a cover than change an outfit.

With that said, since you have to use disposables right now (I hate washing machine troubles, by the way! Ours is working again but we still don't have hot water hooked up to it so I bucket it in or just wash on cold.) I would try going up another size.

I'm with ya! Our new diapers haven't arrived in the mail yet and so we've switched to disposables b/c her old cloth ones are too small. But the disposables are constantly leaking. Granted, I'm not bothering to try different types b/c the new cloth ones should be here in a day or two.
