Midwife Help

I am really discouraged and hope someone here can help me. Dh and I are planning on ttc soon and really want to have a homebirth this time. I had 4 easy hospital deliveries, but really hated feeling so "caged in" when I had to stay in the bed, had to have an IV,constant monitoring, etc.

The problem is, I am having no luck finding a midwife ANYWHERE near me. None of my friends have done homebirths, so there is no word of mouth for me to go by. From what I am finding, the nearest midwife to me practices at a birthing center 3 hours from my home! Is there a resource I do not know about?

I live in Louisiana, in a small rural community, and am really starting to get upset. I DO NOT want another hospital birth. I really want to let my body do its thing and enjoy the process this time, especially since I am pretty sure this is it for us.

If anyone has any ideas at all, I will be so thankful!

Where are you? Might there be a midwife willing to come to you? Are you close to another state perhaps?

good luck!

Oh My goodness! I can not believe I did not think of the other state thing. I am less than hour from Texas. I am going to check some of those bordering towns in Texas. !!
Thank You!

Have you tired posting in the "finding your tribe" section? Or contacting this person?

Are you north or south? There aren't any midwives (last I heard) around Beaumount, but there are several on the east side of Houston. Not sure about further north, but worth checking

Have you considered doing an unassisted birth or a medical professional free birth?

I have considered unassisted childbirth. To tell the truth, I am only scared of that because I really haven't read enough about it. Are there any good books on the subject that I could look into?

I am also going to contact the person listed above in this thread. I am not even pregnant yet, but I really am the type of person who NEEDS to have these things thought out and decided beforehand. You guys are so helpful. Thanks for the ideas!

Books, to read...

Unassisted Childbirth, by Laura Shanley
Unassisted Homebirth, by Lyn Griesemer
Ina May's Guide to Natural Childbirth (I just love the birth stories, although they are all mw attended,)
Emergency Childbirth, by Gregory White (very informational, but writen by a doctor, for emt's/police officers)
and just google, " Unassisted birth stories" and see what you come up with !
Best wishes

Just letting you know I feel your pain girl!
I've had 2 very easy natural hospital births myself and want a HB for my 3rd and last for the EXACT same reasons as you!
My births were so fast and the only things I truely hated about the experiances was the miserable drive to the hosp with cx at 3 min appart:
And the pukey feeling I got from the "necessary" strap-on monitors:
So basically everything I hated about my labors and deliveries could easily be eliminated just by staying home!!
I too live in a small rural area and had no clue where to turn to find a midwife but I found a great "hidden treasure" websight through recomendations here along with a gal who had great experiance with a midwife that just so happens to live 10 MINUTES away from me!!! Can ya believe that?!

Oh, and also I planned WAY in advance also (LOL) I'm not ttc till july/aug but a good 6 months ago I found my midwife and so glad I found her so early cause that's just one less thing for me to fret over!
Better now than fighting against the clock while pg ;-)

Post in the birth professional section and the tribal area and I'm positive you'll find your midwife closer than you think!
