Hi ladies, I was just wondering if you wash you Pul before you make a diaper with it? And do you wash your hemp before making a soaker with it?

PUL - yes, because I obsessively wash everything before it goes into stash.

Hemp - ABSOLUTELY, because it shrinks.

Normally, I would agree 100% with this statement. But PUL turns into a wrinkled, curly, difficult to manage mess when washed. So I don't wash PUL.

Everything else I wash, including polyester fleece.

I prewash everything, including solid colored poly PUL. I've never had a problem with it bunching up. Pre-washing print PUL can be a huge mistake, though. I've ruined some that way. It was impossible to flatten out enough to cut & sew.

I only have solid color PUL. I better keep that in mind for prints & DIY. THANK YOU.

I must suck at washing PUL then, because I've had problems with solid polyester 2mil PUL.

Any temperature recommendations? Did you wash it with other things or alone? Maybe the dryer did it, do you dry on hot or warm?

I don't wash my PUL before cutting/sewing it.
Hemp must be washed and dried on hot several times before cutting/sewing. Hemp has natural oils still on it and will not become absorbent until those oils have been removed.
Hope that helps

I usually wash it with towels or sheets. I have no idea what settings... probably cold water & hot dryer. I'm using a big piece of PUL for a shower curtain right now. Works great!

I don't bother prewashing any kind of PUL. The only exception would be if it had shop dirt on it from the manufacturer that I wanted to make sure came out. Otherwise, since it doesn't shrink, I don't see the need to wash it since the completed diaper is going to be washed before it gets used.
