can i still be a homeschooler

Thread Starter
recently i have found myself forced to become a single mom and put my son in daycare.

i dont know what the future holds for me, and i am triing to figure out what kind of a work scedual would be best for me and my son.
but what i want to know is how can i still call myself a homeschooler if im working and hes in daycare and may eventually go to school.
im going to try like hell to not let him go to public school and get him into a local montisorri, its more of a relaxed style but still hearty in the learning if ykwim.
anyway, my son is 4 and hes been at home with me his whole life.
hes been in daycare for almost 2 months now and sure the playtime is cool, but he really doesnt need it as much as he has to be there for. he doesnt like it everyday and while i know hell get used to it , I really dont want him to.

well i suppose this is more than just a homeschool issue, feel free to tell me all your thoughts. im a bit unfocused these days.

TIA mammas

I find myself in the same position...

My DH is terminally ill and I would like guidance as to what to do w/ my totally homeschooled 11 year old. I am a teacher, so he could go to my school, but I need to care for my DH but look out for my DS's best interests.

I am in the forest, and I need someone to look at the trees for me.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Applejuice, I'm sad about your husband. That's a lot to deal with, for all of you...

I am a single mom. My daughter went to kindergarten but we've homeschooled since then, and she's 10 now. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't have sent her to kindergarten...

I have made a lot of life decisions based on how they would impact our homeschooling. I spent two years working for a charter school here in California that enrolls homeschoolers as independent study students, and that option is still available in this state if you have a teaching credential. Tutoring is also an option, especially to homeschoolers. Now we live on a farm and barter work for rent, and I sell books online to make enough for us to live on. Rain helps, both with book-work and farm-work. I could make a lot more with a regular job-job, but I couldn't make my own schedule and be with Rain.

When she was little I did sometimes pay sitters, usually homeschooled teens, to watch her. Now she generally stays by herself (if the neighbors are home) or goes to play at a friend's house while I do work stuff, or else she comes (she's a pretty good book scout and easily finds $100 worth of kid books at most sales, so I prefer she comes!).

So... start looking outside the box at ways you can make money and still be with your kids, and use your local homeschooling community as a resource. Get your kids on board - if they want to homeschool, you'll need their help.
