Punkie punk punk

I noticed the thread on progressive 80's music and was wondering if there were any fellow punksters out there? I got some Dead Kennedys on vinyl............. some Social D maybe or some Misfits??? Any takers? Moshing optional but pogoing is encouraged.

I'm game! No moshing for me - I'm only 5 foot tall and I tend to get squashed!

How about some Sex Pistols? Not very creative tonight, but it does the trick when you're feeling naughty
post #3 of 47
*raising hand* Even at 5'1, I ventured into the mosh pit occassionally(it helped that I only did it when DH's brother was on stage, so if I was having a problem, I could jump onstage and get away). And Sex Pistols are great for classic punk(is there even such a thing? LOL)same with The Ramones. Um, let's see, Rancid, some of the neo-punk stuff(Blink 182, Green Day, Sum 41, etc...)isn't too bad.
LOL ds LOVES Sum 41!

Yeah, I think there's a 'Classic Punk'. Some of the new stuff is more machine generated than the old thrashy, raw stuff.

Ben loves Blink 182 and Green Day, and has since he was a toddler!! We're so afraid that when he gets older, he'll rebel with his musical style, and get into dance music or something like that.

Aaahhh, same here. If only I actually LIKED bands who were against moshing as it is an act of violence (in their opinion, Fugazi, for example), then I would be safe! Ian MacKaye is a great talent, though. Even with the big turnaround he did from Minor Threat to Fugazi.

Black Flag anyone?

My DP LOVES and had always loved 7Seconds and the Descendents, though he finds that growing up has strained how passionately he feels their music.

When I was younger I used to be into (classic) punk for the message that some bands preached (the good messages, not the sex drugs n' rock n' roll )...now I find I just love the sound. I love it HARD, FAST and with lots of YELLING! When the music makes me want to scream, present my middle finger while pogo'ing away, I'm there!

.....and, yes, I love Blink 182. What can I say - they're catchy and fun!

I was/am more of a Nations of Ulysses, Bikini Kill punk, but I did see the Vandals play back in the day and for all you PNW punks, who could forget The Wipers. I'm glad there is such a variety of moms here.
I just made t-shirts that say

Punk= Function over Fashion

and
Punk is a Mom in Jeans and a T-shirt.

Social Distortion, Fear, The Vandals, The Ramones, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedy's,NOFX........all of these have found their way into my car stereo lately. I think I'm reliving my childhood!

That is ALL I wear, very occasionally I'll put a nice shirt on, or a dress, but it's rare.

Oh yeah, and usually on my feet is a pair of athletic shoes, Converse all-stars, or Airwalks(I need a new pair though, but I want the old style, and I can't find them anywhere)

mmmmmmmm Black Flag and Bikini Kill. Dd is becoming quite the fan of the Ramones but not so much with the Clash.

My last mosh pit experience was not so good. I am all of 5 ft 1 myself and this brick wall of a chicka introduced her steele toe to my nose. *Ouch* Well Suicidal Tendencies sound better at the back of the venue anyway.:

Okay, I'm seeing a trend here, short punksters! LOL I only ever moshed at small clubs, and then, like I said, when DH's brother was on stage so I could save myself.

When I went to a Violent Femmes concert, at a civic center(it was during their Viva La Wisconsin tour, they were nice enough to come to Fargo for that tour) there was a mosh pit!! Weirded the group out, Gordon even made a few comments about it.

I'm realizing thru reading here that I really need to find some of these groups CD's again...I had most of them at one time(Dead Milkmen, Descendants, Fugazi) but they've disappeared over the years.

Ds is 8 and a rebel in EVERY way. But, he's sweet and has a gentle soul . He thinks its great that his momma was wild at one time and LOVES my music! Recently, he stole my Ministry CD's and took them it to his guitar teacher so he could learn to play Theives and Burnin'.

However, he REALLY likes Justin Timberlake I keep telling myself "be nice, he has his own taste, it's OK, remember how you felt when your mother put YOUR music down".

Well, I LOVE the Goo Goo Dolls, so, go figure The recent mixed CD I burned has Ministry, Bauhause, Sex Pistols, Goo Goo Dolls, Mission UK, Ann Clark, The Dead Milkmen, Skinny Puppy, The Smiths, The Cure, Caberet Voltair, Beastie Boys and Cocteau Twins - now if that isn't messed up

Gosh I miss Simonee when we talk music Settle in soon Simonee - I miss you

Oh, I forgot about Fugazi and how much I love them. The best part is that All my favorite bands are becoming parents too and writing music about it. All these years and I can still relate to them.

Dh and I always joke about ds growing up and being in a boy band. We'll have to go to his shows and cheer him on and look at his picture on the front of Teen Beat Mag.

Marg and I were into punk in the early to mid 1980's. We were the first punk wedding in Madison, and, as far as I know, have outlasted all of the punkers that got married after us.

I've seen a few punk bands listed above, and plenty of non-punk bands mentioned too; however, I think I've outgrown screaming "poseur" at all of the wannabes, so I'll just keep my mouth shut.

I like to believe that my punk roots helped make me what I am today... which may help explain why I rub so many people the wrong way. In fact, whenever someone here mentions "MDC", I always think for a split-second of that great early 80' hardcore band Millions of Dead Cops, that later morphed into Multi Death Corporations.

OMG!!! Hilary Briss, you got me thinking.

I went downstairs and dug through my old vinyl collection. I TOTALLY forgot I had some of this stuff!!! Alien Sex Fiend, Revolting Cox, Skinny Puppy, The Dammed, Sex Pistols, Vicious Pink, Dead Kennedy's. I've GOT to get this stuff to CD!!! I'm so excited!!

I took a small stack up to show to ds and he wants to hear it ALL. I broke out into "God Save the Queen" and he laughed and said "you remember all that stuff?" :LOL Ok, I'm going to corrupt my child.

Why do I now have the urge to spike my hair and wear army boots?

I was at a bookstore tonight, and I saw a guy wearing a coat with a Rudimentary Peni design on the back. For those of you that don't know, RP was an extremely political English punk band, kind of like Crass, from about 20 years ago. I was impressed that anyone still knows about them.

Revolting cocks!!!!!!! Man, I have to go back to Vegas and get my records back from my parents. I am seriously in need. I am torn on the punk or not so punk issue........ I came to the lifestyle in the 90s and was influenced mainly by the Dks and Bad Religion and grew from there but I have a hard time with Blink 182 or Good Charolette or Avril Levigne (sp?)..... don't remember where I was going with that I shall return to it later.
HB - Rudimentary Peni dosn't ring a bell? Now I'm going to have to go searching!

I actually never considered Blink 182, Sum 41 or Good Charlot to be Punk. I always think back to the older stuff (guess I'm showing my age: ).

Avril Leveign? Punk? Really? My son loves her. I don't find her totally annoying, so she's ok. Now Missy Elliot is giving my head a pounding! But, I refuse to say anything. I keep remembering how my parents insulted my taste in music.

Yeah, ds keeps saying "can we play that song by the Revolting 'word I can't say'"? :LOL

I consider Ministry and Revolting Cocks more Industrial than Punk, but I like it non-the-less! Alaen Jeorgonson writes amazing lyrics! There was another band he had, what was that one again? Now I've got to look it up.
Actually, I did a search on Rudimentary Peni, and found out that they did put some records out in the mid 90's, so it's not quite a stretch to see someone wearing a jacket with their artwork on it.

I always really liked "Foetus", as in Scraping Foetus off the Wheel, and You've got Foetus on your Breath. I never considered Foetus to be punk, per se, but it's pretty wild stuff, and got progressively rawer as he went on. Any other Foetus fans here?
My crowd always considered Rudimentary Peni and Foetus to be "Crust Punk" as in Crusty Punks/Gutter Punks. The bands Filth, Blatz and Naked Aggression fall in that category too. Politically motivated punk.

This is making me think of all the great Hard Core bands I listened to when I was in highschool. Anyone here an old Man is the Bastard fan? Or Rorshach? I miss being a punker, but I don't miss dumpster diving and hitchhiking. I like where I am now and I never want to be a teenager again.

Avril Lavigne is NOT punk. She is the new generation of Mtv rebel teen marketing. This is like when RollingStone magazine put a picture of Green Day on the cover and titled it "The Year Punk Broke". That was the end true, underground punk. Now punk can be purchased as a look at the mall. You don't have to have the punk spirit to look the punk part, kwim?
