This is Jeremy, Stephanie's husband. Not too sure how to post so bear with me. She wanted to let you know Devin is in the hospital with RSV. She is very ill with it and has been in for several days now. She'll be back as soon as she is able - she has been in the room with Devin for three days nonstop now. Hopefully she will trun the corner and get better soon.

Hello everyone. Not sure how long I have to post as Kiera is trying to get on my lap and Devin is there already! Devin was very sick - they almost flew her out to a hospital in Chicago - but she seems to be doing a little better now. I took her into the ER on Saturday night in the middle of the night since she was turning purple again and could not breathe. I have taken her in for this problem three times already and she tested negative for RSV then - they told me it was "probably asthma" and sent me home. The told me she was "fine" as she was sleeping when we got there and her oxygen sats were 98 but then she began coughing and they fell into the low 80s. After 4 hours in the ER (: ) they told us they wanted to admit her. She was in an oxygen tent the entire time and they did breathing treatments. They tested her for Pertussis since niether child of mine is vaccinated and so now we are fighting with the Health Department but that is another thread - if you want to know what is goig on there check out this thread:

Devin did NOT like the oxygen tent and cried a lot. I finally took her out and put her in the sling when I was able and her sats picked right up. They weren't perfect but they were better than when she was screaming. I had to fight for a lot of things: namely nursing her (she was so weak they wanted me to pump so they could feed her form a bottle - I did pump but I insiste don nursing her unless she refused to nurse) and co-sleeping. After Devin did not sleep the entire first day she was there the respiritory therapist yelled at the nurses and told them this child needed sleep and she should be put in bed with me if they didn't want a dead kid on their hands. : Kind of harsh but it worked.Devin and I slepts together (her in the o2 tent with me outside looking at her) and she slept for 7 jours straight!!! The doctor sent her home after three days 4 nights but wanted to keep her in longer, however the insurance company (love HMOs...) would not agree to it. SO she is home and we have a portable nebulizer with breahting treatments every four hours and a "special one" in the mornings. I am so relieved she is going to be OK...and except for the nurses who were scared of the co-sleeping they were really great in the hospital. I educated everyone about waterbirths, co-sleeping, and other "MDC stuff". As a side note - yey for Mama's milk - two other kids were there with RSV and they were better than Devin whenshe arrived - unfortunately they are still there and Devin is home. The ped taking care of her told me it is becasue I am nursing her since they are bottle-fed and my milk has immunities and stuff...Kiera crying...gotta go...

Good for you for taking a stand in the hospital. I had to do the same thing with DD2, I absolutely refused to put her in the crib and pestered every person that walked in my room for a regular bed, and I got one too.

I'm sorry to hear that your family went through this, I'm glad that you are home now, and I hope Devin improves rapidly.

glad to hear that Devin is on the mend. I am at once horrified that the hospital was so unfriendly to a child's needs and impressed by your strength during this ordeal. kudos to you, mama, and hugs to all.
