Car Accident

: I had a very eventful day! First of all, I'm fine (and still pregnant) and so is baby. I went to the midwives this afternoon and then went to meet my mom at Costco to do my last minute baby stock-up shopping. I was sitting parked in the parking lot, finishing up a conversation with my friend. I had pulled in, turned off the car and undone my seat belt, when I looked up and caught site of a car in my rear view mirror. In one of those split second things, I realized that they were going too fast and were going to hit me. This wasn't just a parking lot bump either. The driver (who was 90 if he was a day) slammed on the gas instead of the breaks when he realized he was going to hit me. He hit me so hard that I flew forward and hit my head, my car flew forward far enough and hard enough that it broke the bumper on the car in front of me. I've been in parking lot collisions before but this was nothing of the sort. They were going fast and hit me hard. Of course, the witnesses and all the Costco employees were freaking out that I was so pregnant, that I needed an ambulance, etc. We called the police, who ticketed the other driver. I deferred the ambulance but did go to the hospital when DH arrived (after talking to my MW on the phone, who felt it was best given that I flew forward hard enough to hit my head).

At the hospital they did a non-stress test and a bio-physical profile. Baby passed the BPP with 8 out of 8, non-stress test showed good heart rates, good blood pressure. I was/am having irregular cx but not too many and not regular at all. Baby was in a weird position during the BPP. Kind of in between vertex and transverse but star gazing. He did not like all the moniters and u/s and kept squirreling up away from them. He seems to have settled back down to a normal position since we have been home. Anyway, since it was not my fault and I was in park, the insurance is covering everything, we don't even have to pay the deductable. Our Britax Boulevard was in the car as well, which will be also be replaced by insurance. I said it was too bad I haven't installed the baby bucket or we could have a new one of those too!

It could have been much, much worse in so many ways. If I had not been on the phone with my friend, I would have been half out of the car when I got hit. I could have been getting DD out of her seat (she wasn't with me). I could have been getting something out of the trunk and actually been hit! Or there could have been someone in the parking lot behind their car. I am very grateful and glad to be home today (although if it had triggered labor, it wouldn't have been that bad!) So... That's my day! :

My goodness. I'm so glad to hear everything is o.k. Just rest, take care of yourself and pull out the ice pack if need be. I know sometimes you can wake up very sore after such a trauma.

Hugs to you!

We got rear ended when I was pregnant w/ dd by an underage guy that had been drinking. He ran before the police got there. It was no where near as major as what happened to you, but it was SO scary!

I'm really glad everything is fine, but you still must feel really rattled by it all!

Thanks for the well wishes We are all fine, it was just surprising more than anything else. I was just sitting there, parked, minding my own business. WendyK- it really sucks that they just drove away! We thought that the people that hit me were going to leave. I think they just didn't know what to do. They pulled forward, quite a ways, and onto the apron in front of the store. They did then stop... I'm feeling pretty good this morning, my neck is stiff, but that's not too surprising! I'm going to call my m/w and get the results of the BPP, they didn't tell me much at the hospital and I would like to know what they really found, not just that I/baby passed, KWIM?

DH and I had a freeway accident 5 days before DS was born. Completely totaled the car, but both walked away with little bumps & cuts. I had some soreness on the belly from the seatbelt, and I was terrified! Spent all afternoon in the hospital, and in the end DS seemed pretty much not to notice. (might be because I rode roller coasters in the first trimester, and flew around Europe during 7th & 8th month?) I wouldn't worry much, hospitals love to go ahead and "procedure" you, so if they let you go, your little one is fine!

Wow! Thank god you're okay! It's so strange the things that you just DON"T expect that come in and alter your perspective...I'm also glad the man took responsibility and didn't take off! Phew!
