Do you love your vacuum cleaner?

My vacuum sucks-- but not very well!!!! We have a three-year-old Eureka upright, and it's time for something different. I have to run the vacuum over crumbs several times before the crumbs dissapear, and I am sure there's a lot it's not picking up. My dh has to clean it out all the time for it to pick up anything.

So . . . tell me about your vacuum, why you love it, what brand it is, and where I can get one!

Well, I needed a strong cheap vacuum with serious filtration. I got the Eureka Boss, which has since been rated a Consumer Choice Best Buy.

It has a sealed HEPA filtration system, which I wanted because our house is old and almost certainly has some lead paint so I don't want any dust going back into the air. There was no other cheap vacuum with this feature. Most HEPA vacs are not a sealed system, so some of the dust is re-entering the air without going through the filter.

It was under $150 from Lowe's and is widely available. I've been really happy with the power for cleaning everything I need it for--it is probably twice as good as my old Hoover vac was.

I LOVE my Oreck. They are a bit spendy if you go into the Oreck stores but it you sign up online, they send special offers and I got mine for $200.

I just got a new vacuum for Christmas and I am in love. For someone who used have trouble vacuuming once a week, I now vacuum almost once a day! It is a Bissell Revolution lift-off Pet Vac. It is great if you have pets. Plus I like that it is bagless becuause then I can see how much stuff i got. Somehow that is very satisfying. It does have a hepa filter and the vacumm part comes out so it is very portable also. Got it for $160 at target but you could probably order from Amazon for less.

I have a Rainbow that we adore.

If it where to die an unrepairable death I would get a Dyson.

I my Riccar. It is a bagged vacuum with a cord that doesn't retract, but I love it. I only have to change the bag every two months, and I don't have to see any of the doghair/dirt or have to empty it before I vacuum, or go outside in Hot/Cold/Rainy weather to empty the cannister or bang the filter "clean". It sucks great, has a five year parts and labor warranty, and if it breaks I don't have to ship it to guam, I just drive it to the dealer. If's $$ but I put it on a 0% intrest cc and will pay off at the end of the year and cancel.

I've posted this in the Dyson thread but I ADORE my Dyson!! I picked it up on clearance/sale so I didn't pay an obscene amount, and it works soooooooooo well! I love that there are no bags, so i'm not making garbage by cleaning my house, and when I fill up the canister I just empty it and keep on truckin' (with 3 cats and a long-haired dog my old vac was always! full!!) The only downside I can think of is that it's expensive - otherwise I have absolutely no quibbles with it.

I adore my Dyson. Seriously. Its unbelievable how much I love that vacuum!

I was not a fan of bagless vacuums before but the way you empty the bag with a Dyson is fantastic!

It is incredibly powerful and is just put together differently....you can easily take things apart if you get something stuck (that thing is so powerful it sucks up dog bones before you even realize it and even then it still has tons of suction!)

One of our best purchases!

My sister had a rainbow and I LOVED hers, it is the BEST vac I have ever used. I have a Dyson and although I don't feel like it is quite as good I still am very very happy! What I especially love is how good it works on the hard floors, I can use it instead of sweeping.

So which is pricer, the dyson or the Rainbow?

I grew up with a Rainbow and it cleans very well, but the water sloshes and is kind of yucky to change, etc. Maybe that has improved in the last ten years though. I would be interested in getting a Rainbow but have no idea of the cvost and it doesn't say on their website. I would also consider a dyson. Or something else. Haven't made up my mind yet!

I have a Meile canister vacuum and I LOVE it. It has a HEPA filter, the suction is great, it is light weight and much quieter than any other vacuum I have owned.

I hated my upright with poor suction and hauling that loud heavy thing around. The Meiles are pricey, but worth it IMO!

I hate my Dyson!! I think I'm the only person in the world who does but I do!!! It falls over on me ALL the time, it has a big bulky thing on the tip of the tube where you connect the heads so you can't get easily into the area's behind the telly etc, you have to pull everything out and the hose doesn't stay up half the time. Also you can either have the stem really long or really short, there is NO in between. I've had it for about 2 years and am just waiting impatiently for it to die so I can get something I like, alas being a Dyson it will probably suck forever :

I love my Dyson -- it picks up everything! DH is actually the one who usually vacuums in our house and the hose does annoy him, but the amount it picks up balances it out for him. We had a Hoover or something cheaper for a couple years and it was constantly clogged by all the dog hair.

I couldn't live w/o my roomba!! I program it to vacuum when we are asleep and I wake up to a clean kitchen and family room everyday!!

Rainbow is at least triple more than a Dyson.

Dont know by what you mean the water sloshing. It does if you carry it but it doesn't cause any problems.

This house we are renting has carpeting and the previous people must have had a terrible vacuum as us using the rainbow in one room thats about a 10x10 stopped up the water from the dirt it got out of the carpeting. :

We have had our Rainbow for about 9 years. It needs a few minor things replaced but nothing that stops it from working well.

I love my Hoover S3765-040 WindTunnel Electronic Bagless Canister Vacuum
that I got for Christmas.

But I'm saving up for a central house vac. It's not that expensive, about $400 for our size house and we can install it ourselves, it's actually quite simple. And $400 That's cheaper then some of the other vac's I see listed here and a central house vac doesn't spit any dust back into the air.

My inlaws have a rainbow vac... I wonder if they will let me borrow it when they leave next week for hawaii... hum....

2nd vote here for the Riccar. Reasons: I have three kids and a dog. Big dog, German Shepherd, which means I vacuum a LOT. I bought my Riccar 10 years ago now, and the thing just won't die. It cost us about $265, back then, and when I recently went to get more bags, their comparable model to todays standard is the same price (I have an N2000). Only now, their attachments are on-board.

We have replaced the hose once, as the kids over-loved it, and I think the belts have been changed when necessary. Other than that, it's been used an average of twice a week, for 10 YEARS, and still going strong. Our next vacuum will be a Riccar too. We got ours at a sewing and vacuum store.
