How do I put in elastic

Hi, I'm going to try making diapers for DD since allmost ALL diaper don't fit her 14 in thighs and super short rise, but I have no idea how to put in the elastic some one please help!

Are you talking about a casing or are you sewing it into the dipe? If you are sewing it into the dipe, just pull the elastice tight and do a zig zag or 3-step zig zag for the length that you want it. If you are doing a casing, sew the casing, anchor one end of the elastic, stretch it and and anchor the other end. You'll have to experiment how tight to pull the elastic. I always pull it as tight as I can and have no problems but sometime baby's have more sensitive skin and they need the elastic less well, elastic. Good luck!

If you do the free sewing way to put in elastic, I find it works better to anchor one end, zig zag down the elastic as I pull HARD - but no so hard as to break a needle - on the elastic then trim AFTER the elastic is in...keeps my hands from getting too close to the needle and I've seen what a sewing machine needle can do to someone's fingers. Yeeouch!
