Be with my baby? I am Catherine the Great!

In Toy Wishes(not commercialized at all lol) there is an article called "motherhood at the top" and I must tell what Catherine Zeta-Jones said. She already has one child and she just had a baby. The interviewer asked her if she will take off some time from work to be with her baby in the first few years and she goes..."What am I going to be doing for three years? There are only so many parks you can take the baby to! My God." she says with an incredulous laugh. "No, obviously I am going to be trying to get back into shape and start working as soon as I can!":

Well, I could see her priorities when I saw how she carried on in Chicago, 4 mos pg. Slamming herself front down on a table and sliding? Climbing scaffolding? And you know they did take after take! Looked like she was trying to give herself a miscarriage! It made me sick!

edited to get name of movie right--d'oh!

That response just makes me want to :Puke.

Oh for Pete's sake... she's an opportunistic, husband stealing self centered wretch. The children are just props. They exist to bind her powerful Hollywood husband more closely to her and to prop up his sagging, aging male ego. Really, what's a trophy wife without a few spanking new trophy kids to round out the package? Those kids have gotten tham on dozens of magazine covers... but honestly, on a day in day out basis the brats aren't pulling their weight so why should she waste her valuable time on them?

Her response bothers me. I think it is all too prevalent in this modern world. I sincerely hope that she does not honestly feel that way.

But in all fairness to her....the media has a tendency to edit and word things poorly...even if she said it, it may have been taken out of context. As we have discussed on this board more than once.

And as for her role in Chicago...she is a dancer....was on Broadway from the age of 19. I know A LOT of dancers that danced all the way through their pregnancy and were in no way trying to give themselves a miscarriage. And the dancers I know are modern dancers, and musical theatre dancers - really athletic super hard stuff, which usually includes floor work and lifts....they never had any problems.

But Adina, the question really is, did she look fat while dancing? I mean, Catherine should never, ever look fat. She works so very hard and goes to the gym, which she is 'loathe to do'.

Nothing worse than looking fat. Especially whilst eating cake.

I honestly didn't see Chicago. And frankly I don't know if she looked fat and more importantly don't really care, she is a lovely woman even 8 months pregnant. But I know several woman who didn't look pregnant at 4 months. Her JOB is to look pretty an nice and inspire us to want to look like her - SHE IS AN ACTOR - not a professor, not a scientist. I work with so many actors, that I have gotten used to what they think they need to be....and yes the pressure is out there from agents and managers.

I don't know what I am trying to say. I guess the venom from the responses, when the media is known to be less than forthright and completely honest was kind of surprising. She is a person, just like the rest of us....she may have said something dumb that day, she may not feel that way at all, she may be the worst mother in the world...I don't know her, I don't know.

It is an unfortunate quote....more unfortuntate if it is true and accurate. I hope for her children's sake that she is not that way.

Well, she didn't look thin exactly, especially when standing next to Renee Zellweger who looked pretty thin. I even commented to a friend that she looked almost chunky in comparison, but it may have been it was because some of the other dancers in that film were disconcertingly thin. I thought perhaps it was just because in the film they knew they'd do those extreme close ups, but then I thought maybe dancers are thin in general. I just saw a touring production of Miss Saigon, and the actors in that were actually not all that thin. They were normal weight with nice figures, but not particularly skinny. But they aren't the ones getting the movie roles.

I did not know that Catherine Zeta-Jones was pregnant during the filming of Chicago.

Adina, I'm alluding to the million dollar lawsuit Jones and Douglas brought for those unauthorized photos taken of their wedding. Jones wailed that the photos made her look fat, enormous and unattractive and put her future career at extreme risk.

Because there is nothing worse than looking fat. Plus, she was eating a huge forkful of cake.

Jones was recently voted 'most irksome' celebrity in Britain. People aren't stupid.

And I read yesterday that Douglas does all the diapering, 'all the way into solids'. Good for him! He seems prepared to sacrifices in ways countess Jones will not.

Amywillow, people like Elton John have gone on record saying that they vouch they've witnessed Zellwegger doing forced vomiting. At the opening party for 'Chicago', she was found in the bathroom, puking again. Blamed it on 'old chicken salad' she ate.

When she was on 'The View', all of the women, especially Barbara Walters, implored Zellwegger to get some help, as she'd dropped too much weight and looked not well. Zellwegger denied any problems.

She doesn't look like she did in 'Jerry McGuire', that's for damn sure.

I agree that the lawsuit was pretty ridiculous.

But, I can safely say that actors, as a group, are a pretty messed up group. Very full of issues and angst...how else can you explain people who get up on stage (or on screen) pretend to be someone else in order to get applause and awards? I think that there are entire offices of shrinks in NYC that are devoted to actors!:LOL

I love my job, I love doing theatre, but I will do a lot to keep my future children from being actors. What an uncertain demanding career - where everything hinges on your ability to be someone else and how you look....

I know that the media twists things and it's possible that they just made it sound mean. But it was supposed to be an article where they were talking about celebrity moms as in look..even celebrities don't have time for their kids!: And didn't Catherine Zeta-Jones say one other time that she isn't nursing more than a few months cause she didn't want to be a milk machine?

Did you guys see the pics of her smoking while pregnant?

Warning/Work Warning - photo almost contains nudity. The nips are blacked out.

This is on an Anti-Smoking website.

Wow. You'd think with all her money/power/friends/whatever she'd have someone around to tell her that she's harming her kid......

I don't like her response, either; but, I gotta make an issue of this bit. I was climbing scaffolding all during my pregnancy, until the eighth month, for my job. I was Resident Engineer on two different construction sites for a big chunk of my pregnancy and only gained a total of 22 pounds. Perfectly healthy baby. Had to climb down (it was the foundation and subgrade stage), yell at someone, start climbing back up, see something else wrong, climb back down, etc. Then, just for fun, get a death threat or two from the contractor. And watch another laborer nearly get injured. And yell at the contractor again. And then, once a week, get cheered by the building department inspectors. And then climb again.

Of course, not everyone can do this; but, as I explained to a lot of people after I started showing, I was taking it easy, relatively. I was used to a lot more. At least I wasn't wearing Level B HazWop protection or dressed for 40 below. If a highwire walker got pregnant, she may not walk over Niagra Falls; but I see no reason that she wouldn't be able to most of what she normally did as long as she's healthy.
