Hello, my first time posting here

Hello, everyone, I've been lurking for a little while but this is my first time posting in here. Homebirth is a option that just became available for my pregnancy, and I'm pretty excited about the idea. I had been seeing an OB in Ohio, planning on my second natural hospital birth. But now I will be in Arizona, where home birth midwives are "legal" and a little easier to find!

I'm not new to the idea of homebirth--my mother had me and my two younger brothers at home, and I got to "catch" my youngest brother when he was born. My mom was with me when my son was born to help me through it, and my parents have happily agreed to let me have this baby at their house, since we will be living in an apartment.

I'm really hoping to be able to find a midwife who will be available at the right time for my birth--had anyone here switched to a HBMW in the middle of their pregnancy? Will it be very hard to do?

Hi! Welcome and congrats on your decision to HB! I know there are mamas on this board who have switched to a MW after starting with an OB (or switched from MW to MW) so I'm sure you'll get lots of good advice.

Just wanted to welcome you!

I switched around 26 weeks and it was very simple. My MW has taken clients when they are 36-37 weeks. Welcome and congrats on the upcoming HB!!

I switched around 7 months. It was not a problem at all, your midwife will just get your charts and medical records from whoever was previously doing your prenatal care. I think that it is fairly common to decide half way through to switch. Good luck to you! I am also in AZ but up in the boonies.

Just wanted to let you know that you can home birth in an apartment if you want.Lots of mamas on MDC have done that including me.It's really not a problem. And then you don't have to get up and go anywhere.

Welcome!

There are some great mws here and you should have no problem finding someone. My mw just got 2 clients right at the end of their pgs. I think it happens more than we realize. If you aren't comfortable in an apartment by all means take your parents up on their offer but I just wanted to let you know that there have been lots of mommas give birth in apartments here in AZ. So it can be done if you want to do it.

PM if you want any recommendations for mws!

Welcome! I also know people who have switched to a midwife in the middle and the very end of their pregnancies with no problem.
Congrats!

Shelsi--I'll be up north of you, in the Prescott area.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement...I'm glad to hear that it's common to switch. I've already started looking on the internet for HBMWs in the area, and I won't even be there until Tuesday!
