Whoa - birth video

From the 60's - a police officer training film on how to deliver a baby in an emergency situation.

http://www.archive.org/details/sudden_birth

The crazy thing - is that its a live birth! This woman gave birth to her baby on a movie set, in the backseat of a car (????) I guess its no different than giving birth on Baby Story, but still - what a bizarre situation to orchestrate.

The advice in the film is really great "just let nature take its course, don't intervene" I think the DOCTORS need to hear that! Geeze.

Anyway - its pretty wild.

Wow, crazy!! The woman seems so calm. I was much louder and more intense than that!!

The way they're talking to her is hilarious -- "RELAX!" "RELAX!" Yeah right.

Part of my sex ed classes - in the mid '90s, mind - was watching a old movie called "Birth in a Bomb Shelter." At the time, I thought it was funny that they made us watch it, but in retrospect, it was a good example that birth proceeds just fine most of the time!

I am watchingit now, cracks me up, love the advice though!

they need to hand that baby to her already though. and no gloves!

That was actually really cool, minus the bad acting, LOL!

Thank goodness, I was half expecting to read that the video had them instructing people to "hold her legs together and tell her to not push!"

That video sounds cool.

"Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrg. I'm going to have a baby. I am going to have a baby right now. Please help me." Bad acting is right!

How to Assist a Baby's Birth via 1960's training video -
1. Tell the mother to relax.
2. Get her to the hospital if you can.
3. Assess the situation.
4. Remove underclothes.
5. Remind the mother to stay calm.
6. Let nature take it's course.
7. Support baby's head, but do not pull.
8. Do not try to hurry the birth.
9. Hold onto the baby. They're slippery.
10. Do not cut the baby's cord.
11. Put baby face down on mother's stomach to let the fluids drain.
12. Check the cord to see if there's still a pulse.
13. Do not pull on cord, let mother push out afterbirth.
14. Massage mother's stomach to reduce any bleeding, although usually under these conditions they seldom have such problems.
15. Okay, that ought to do it.

Wow I can't imagine how they figured out how to build a car for her to birth in & time everything correctly. Could you imagine?

Ahahahahaha! That was a rite. The acting was painful to watch. It was glaringly obvious that "Officer North" was a Dr. Did you notice how he was trying to "deliver" the baby, not just "receive" it?

My guess is that they had the birth scene all set up for when she was in labor. Then, the Dr did his thing in costume. They probably taped all the other scenes(outside the car) another time, after she healed. She sure was incredibly calm for all that was going on, especially the friend fussing.

It was very entertaining. Thanks for posting it.
