Oh great! My 2 big kids both have fevers!

Normally I wouldn't care much, since this seems to be a run-of-the-mill virus that responds well to meds (and is keeping them calm on a snowy no-school day!). But I really really dont a) want to catch it myself, or have DH catch it, when I am so close to delivery and b) dont want baby to end up with a fever, because of the crazy workups they do on newborns!

Judging from the friends we got it from (who, seriously, are constantly sick and I am tempted to consider banning from the house for the next 6 weeks or so even though I know they will be a huge source of support & food & housecleaning... sigh), it goes only for a day in the kids with a runny nose after, and 2 days for the grownups also with the cold after. Sigh. Hopefully I'll just hold on to baby until we're done with it. Why they came over with their kiddo sick a few days ago I don't know.

I guess if I get sick, baby will get all my antibodies at least...

Yuck! Not fun... That's been one of my worries- sick kids/DH/me... I hope your kids are better soon and you stay healthy and well

DD & I are both fighting off colds right now. Well, half colds. We both have one of those colds where you don't get a fever or a runny nose, just a lot of postnasal drip, scratchy throat, & in DD's case a wick bronchial cough that comes & goes at odd moments but never seems to produce anything.

I'm really hoping it clears up before I go into labor too.

Hope they feel better soon and you and your dh stay healthy!

I have had a cold for the last 2 weeks, it is stubborn. I finally am feeling better after two days of intense garlic, tea with lemon and honey, vitamin C, and finally some rest. However, now dh and dd both have it. My friends and family keep calling wondering about the baby and I keep telling them it is a good thing that baby doesn't come until we are all well or at least closer to it.

Oh, and we have the SAME friends! Seriously, they get us sick ALL. THE. TIME. They seem oblivious to the fact that they, or their kids are sick too, they never stop for an illness so they spread them everywhere.

Normally I dont really care. We see each other nearly daily, so whatever their kiddo has mine have already been exposed to, you know? (Not to mention what mine are picking up at school separately and passing to her!) And for some reason we seem to get less than 1/4 of the stuff they pass around amongst themselves... dont know if its that my oldest kid brought home all these germs already and they are going through it with their first (who is DD's age) or they just need more immune boosters. lol But when they know I've been doing the prelabor thing, bringing a kid with a fever to dinner is probably not the best plan, you know?

And I really am depending on them to help after baby... we have no family here and they ARE our family, in that sense. But oy, the thought of their perpetually green-snotted DD, who really I love like my own, near my tiny baby... I am not a germophobe but if we have to do a big workup or antibiotics because of her perpetual cold... I'll be mad.

That is funny, I swear I could have written your post. We love our friends like family too, we are totally depending on them to watch dd when I go into labor, they have a perpetually green snot nosed dd the same age as mine and I love her SO much...all their kids really...

Dd has been relatively healthy this year, as have we, and this is cold season so I shouldn't complain about one cold...just bad timing.

I wonder if the kids have allergies rather than a cold? I only mention this because of the perpetualness of it.

My friends figure if we all have colds then why not get together, since we are all sick anyways but anything else we try and keep to ourselves!

I was sick for the last 6wks with my last dd. Trying to breathe in general was difficult, but when needing to breathe through contractions was even harder.

They are exploring that angle, but Zyrtec and a variety of homeopathic/herbals havent helped. She seems to have a constant sinus infection as well as just picking up every little thing that comes down the pike. They are at that age, too, first year in daycare etc. Poor kid has been on every antibiotic known to man, as well as immune boosters etc ... she's only 3 1/2! They are considering adenoid issues next I think. Her mom also is one of those people who picks up everything that goes around so there's probably a genetic component too. She's just unlucky in this dept I guess, poor kid.

Luckily mine are better today and so far so good on DH and I. I am thinking if we make it to Monday night that we're probably in the clear. I hope so!

Our friends are actually pretty sure that there is an allergy component involved. Their oldest has severe allergies, so it is definately a possibility for their dd as well. It makes it hard for them to tell if she has a cold or if it is just allergies or what is going on.

Glad your kids are feeling better!

I've been sick on and off since beginning of Dec. It came back with a vengence this past weekend and I finally broke down and decided to see a doctor. Dh is sick too. The kids all have runny noses. And I'm miserable, but getting better on antibiotics at 37 1/2wks pregnant (not what I wanted for myself).

I do hope the sickies leave us before the baby is born. This is not how I want my house to be for my 2nd home birth. I want it "sicky germ free", germs are fine, but virus sickness is not. A baby just can't have a stuffy nose, they do not breath through their mouths, they can't!
