Nightmares??

Do your babies have bad dreams/nightmares? Ian will start to whimper/cry while he is sound asleep (pouty lip, super sad look on his face). Even while I am holding him. I gently whisper "Momma's here, everything is ok, momma is keeping you safe" over and over, almost try to wake him without scaring him. Other times it's even worse. He'll just suddenly scream and start crying unconsolably (sp). I'll even be holding him and awake so it isn't like I miss any other sign that he's waking up. He's not vaxed or circ'd, we never do cio. I don't know what my poor little guy could be dreaming that would do this to him.

The last few nights it's happened at 3am. He cries harder if I try to nurse him or burp him. He's not even awake, his eyes are closed and his little head slumps like he is asleep but he is shrieking. A few times I've given him teething tabs and then his bink and he passes right back out. Sometimes that hasn't helped either though.

Anybody have any ideas or any other babies doing this?

Sean has done this too. I wake him up and nurse him back to sleep. I can't imagine what makes them so upset either. On the other hand, sometimes he will laugh in his sleep too.

I was just coming here to post about this topic! The little baby nightmares make me so sad, too-- she wakes me up huffing and puffing and whimpering, and I hold her and stroke her and try to calmly wake her up by saying her name. Then she wakes up shrieking and crying for about 30 seconds, latches on and falls right back to sleep. Her daddy has really bad nightmares/night terrors, so I wonder if it's inherited? Whenever she has one, I am so thankful we cosleep so i'm there for it, and I worry about transitioning her to a bed later.

Speaking of nightmares, I also had horrible nightmares last night about being a bad mom. A really, really bad mom. Leaving my baby in a rubber raft at an alligator farm, accidentally taking her on a whiplash rollercoaster, etc. I wake up feeling so horribly guilty! Dreams can be so annoying. :

I hate dreams like that. I had one over and over that I was going to college to be a mom and kept getting kicked out for being incompetent. Although now it seems pretty silly compared to yours, but I would wake up crying and thinking that someone would come take dd away.

YES! Its crazy, she'll shriek and cry.

Other times she will have the "Field Of Nipples" dream. Its where she nurses in her sleep, with a half grin on her face, completely peaceful. Other times she'll sleep like a baby kitten, with her tongue out between her lips.

Oh, he has that one too. It's so cute!

I'm glad that there isn't something wrong that this is happening to him. But I'm sad that our poor babies are having bad dreams when they are this little. I wonder if it's some sort of stage. Dh says that dd did it too. I must have blocked it out.

Aria has done this kind of. She doesn't make the sad faces, but she does occasionally wake up screaming and to be honest, I had attributed it to reflux. She can seem so uncomfortable and pissed cause she is still sleeping, eyes closed, wanting to be asleep, but awake against her will. I suppose it could be nightmares but during the day she has done it and I have sometimes seen her wake up gasping like there was nasties in her throat so that made sense to me.
Poor little guys!
Love the "field of nipples"!
