I just read the most touching book ever. I just can't stop thinking about it.

Night by Elie Weisel

I now have to go read everything he has ever written.

Many of my favourites have already been mentioned but I have to add:

House of the Spirits, by Isabel Allende
Dove (I read this when I was really young, its about a boy's solo sailing trip around the world - or some other impossible distance !)
Roots, Alex Haley (again, I first read it when I was about 8 - totally changed my world view forever, as you can imagine!)
The Chronicles of Narnia, CS Lewis
Blindness, (I know he's Spanish - but the author's name escapes me)
