Dh(the big baby) is sick today and I don't want to bug him with this. How the freak to you unclog a sink? I've tried plunging it and Lye (soap making stuff) and its still clogged. So what the heck do I do? I hate to go buy draino or other crap, at least with the lye I know it will turn to soap and not be as harmfull. Help! I really need to do my dishes!

Oh SHOOT! It was just on This Old House not an hour ago...some kind of natural substance called ________ Enzyme (dh and I both can't recall) that the plumber recommended more than any of the chemical stuff. From the way he mentioned it, it seemed commercially available. It looked like white powdery stuff...I know, noth helping. But I am sure you could ask for the stuff at a hardware store and they'd know what you mean. So sorry- what a pain!

Unscrew the u-pipe under the sink and clean it out. Voila.

Pour some bleach down there. It's better than drano, and more effective.

Pous some (I can't remember how much ) baking soda down the drain, then pous VERY HOT vinegar down the drain. Cover your face, it is a pretty crazy reaction, but it works. Then use a plunger or something to loosen it up, and run HOT water down the drain. Works great!

Thanks for the great suggestions! I thinkI'' try the baking soda one, it seems lest scary, then we'll try something else next. I am so scared of having to take the drain apart, LOL! Thanks so much for the help!

A snake is your best bet long-term. It's a PITA to use, but it will work. From there move on to removing the u-shaped pipe & clean that out.

The enzyme cleaner, I know RotoRooter sells it. It's fairly expensive, but it lasts a long time (and it's a lot cheaper than calling them to unclog your pipes.)

Not related to your sink, but a general PSA: don't flush wet wipes, tampons, whatever, even if it says "flushable." Don't flush anything other than toilet paper, because it will clog your lines. My husband is still in training, but he told me the other night that the "Kandoo" wipes & their ilk are going to put our kids through college.
