Anybody know if you can make a diap without elastic or is it essential. It can be a fitted or AIO or AI2. Contures maybe? Thanks for the help.

If it helps I LOVE my eezi gears and want to duplicate them as well as i can!!

Thanks

Yep, I made newborn contours without elastic and they worked pretty fine.

I suppose an aio w/out elastic would be fine for an older baby with formed poops. I'd want a cover with elastic to go over the diaper for a younger baby though.

I make contours without elastic... just totally out of curiosity, what is your aversion to the elastic?

I am a newbie to sewing and I haven't had anyone be able to show me how to do it and I have NO clue when I try and read how. Once I figure it out it would be no problem or if someone could explain it and have it make sense to me that would be great but until then..... I am in the dark on elastic.

What is ya'lls favorite fabric to make diaps out of? I LOVE recycling things so throw your craziest materials out there!

I just made Noah a pocket fitted out of an old army shirt from my dad. I love recycled fabrics, too, I make everyone give old t-shirts and stuff to me to make diapers instead of giving them to Goodwill
I do my elastic really easy- all I do is sew down the ends and then sew a casing around it (I T&T all my dipes). To figure out how much I need, I just lay the diaper out, hold the elastic where I want it to start, stretch it to where I want it to stop, put my finger there to mark the spot, and cut Then I just cut an identical piece for the other leg. It's really very easy. I never knew how to sew, and taught myself, and I think it's a lot easier to just sew down the ends than it is to sew the whole thing in.

It shows the way I do my elastic. This site was really helpful to me when I was first learning how to sew diapers, b/c it has step-by-step pictures for everything

This free pattern is made from old t-shirts....but it does have elastic...although the elastic doesn't look hard.

I had never used a sewing machine in my life until a few days ago, when I made an AIO with elastic and velcro from a prefold and nylon. The elastic was one of the easiest parts-- you just sew down one end, then stretch it and sew it to your fabric while stretched. Really, it's easy.
