Rib Knit binding for dipes?

Hi~ I've decided it's time for me to start making dipes for dd. I really want to bind them instead of serging or turn and topstich. I'm thinking like the motherease ( i used those w/ ds but really don't want to do one size) So I'm not sure what it is that is used as binding but someone said rib knit? Is that right and where do i get that? Has anyone else done this? Any tips on the best way to put it on w/ elastic under? Wow that was alot of questions,

Thanks!!

I've used Fold Over Elastic (FOE) before and I think that's what most diapers are made with when they're not turned and topstitched. I know there's some tutorials around for help with sewing it on. (IMO it takes some practice.) I think you have to buy it online--someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Well I have actual FOE from I think OSDS and it's like 'real' elastic. I would put that on a pul cover but not on an actual dipe. The stuff I want is similar to stuff that is on necklines of shirts. It's stretchy but not nessesarily elastic.

My Recycle Diapers are exactly what you're describing! I use old rib-knit tee shirts cut into strips for the binding, and it's applied about like you would apply bias tape. You sew the diaper together first, them apply the elastic, and then bind over the top of the elastic.

A word of warning, though - all-cotton binding *does* wear holes through it fairly quickly. You can slow down the wear & tear by making your diapers from knit fabrics (old t-shirts) rather than the denim/knit combo, and by trying to find poly/cotton blend rib knit for the binding.

oh wow mehndi mama, thanks!! i clicked on your sig link and realized i saw a dipe of yours a few yrs ago. very cute and i love the jean look!! i've cut up some jersey to bind a shirt and it didn;t turn out very well so i thought i couldn't do it that way~ guess i just need to practice more i plan on making them out of organic velour so practicing first is probably a really good idea,
thanks for the tips!
