How Much Did You Pay For Midwife Services?

How much did you pay your midwife? I live in Texas and my dh and I are just trying to get a ballpark figure for how much our hb is going to cost as we do not have insurance. I know there is usually a flat fee, plus lab fees and then supplies. About how much did your supplies end up costing? Any info will help, thanks!

Where are you in TX? I expect rates vary by location.

We're in Houston. 2.5yrs ago we paid $2000 for our midwife (we switched to her late, her usual fee was $2400)

Her fee now varies from $2500-$3600 depending on how far in advance you pay. (lowest I think for paying by 20 weeks, up to highest, not paid until after 36 weeks)

Other midwives in town are as much as $5000 once you add labs and such.

im in ma and my mw charges $3200 plus labs and supplies. i had already done most of my labs b4 i switched to her and they were covered by my ins - i would assume that regular pregnancy associated labs could be covered by ins, even if they dont cover hb itself. i just had my gbs test done and she put my name and ins number right on the test tube and i think the lab will bill bcbs first?? my supplies were maybe...hrm...$250-$300 including my pool and pump. i got most of my stuff a little at a time, so its hard to add it up in my head.

2400 + labs and supplies if insurance does not cover. If insurance covers the HB she bills around 3500.

In central Florida we pay around 4,200$

In Maine, we paid $3000, which covered everything, including a tub. They use a sliding scale. We managed to get most of it reimbursed by insurance.

In Tucson I am paying $2450 (that's with a $300 military discount) plus labs. Her $2450 covers the initial prenatal blood work up and the GTT, those are the only labs she "requires" and the other ones you pay out of pocket for including u/s. My insurance will cover the labs though although I'll prob just have one u/s late in the pregnancy to check for placenta location...I don't think I'm doing any of the other routine tests.

3,000 for the MW, I switched to her at 30 weeks and still had to pay the full fee. I also had to buy the birthing kit, I think it was a couple hundred.

2500 here in WA... don't know about lab fees... all of it was paid by insurance.

In Northern CA we're paying $2000, that included a birth pool. Other expenses include the 100's of $ in herbs and vitamins and the birth kit (about $30)

I'm in FL and my MW charges around $4600 but Medicaid is covering it all for me. I only have to pay $25 for the birth kit.

My first was in 2002 and cost $1250 plus one set of labs and a~$60 birth kit. Second was in 2004-05 and cost $1500 plus labs and birth kit. Third in 2005-06 my MW had joined a FSBC and it was $1750 if paid by 36 weeks or $2000 if after 36 weeks, plus labs and birth kit. With the first two pre-natals were $25-35, postnatals were included in the birth fee. With the third, prenatals and two postnatal visits were included in the fee.

I had no idea how expensive HB was across the country!!:

Just to add to the collection of different prices across the country...

At the birth center here in Knoxville, TN, I believe they charge $5000 without insurance, but that's for all your prenatal visits and the labor, everything but your sonogram (and Rhogam if you're Rh negative). The birth pool is $200 extra. With insurance my price would have been about $1200, but since I didn't end up having the baby there I got some of it back.

At the Farm Midwifery Center south of Nashville, they charged us $4000 (because it was a breech birth - I think regular ones are $3000 or $3500?). Insurance only paid $600 of that, after about 9 months. ::

Eight years ago I was charged $1500, but this was an unlicensed midwife with little overhead.

In finger lakes region NY it's $3000. My insurance should cover $1000 but no promises yet. I pay for the birth kit, too. Insurance covers labs ect. FORTUNALTY my dh has a flex plan at work, which is money that goes to anything medical. We don't use any of it on insurance becuase we quailify for medicaid so the flexplan covers the midwife and birth kit AND doula! Whoo Hoo! There is still left over that covers and rx's, chriopractor, acupunctur ect...
