How Much Did You Pay For Midwife Services? - Page 2

I'm surprised at the differences too. We pay more because we live 1.5 hrs from her so $1800 for the birth and post birth check up, labs, BC etc. Everything else is optional. $40 for a prenatal check up, $50 for a birthpool with all supplies, $50 for having your placenta dried and encapsulated.

homebirth was going to be $4000 here so we opted for a hospital midwife and paid far less.

My MW now (transferred at 33-34 weeks) charges 4000$ total I think (3000$ since I transferred late) and $25 for a birth kit. Medicaid covers all but the birth kit and supplies I bought off the birth supply list (maybe 75$ worth or so....could have done it cheaper, but ran out of time)

We live in Houston, TX & have seen some clear trends in pricing for homebirth MW services. I don't know if we're really still considering homebirth, but while we were looking into it, the prices we were quoted ranged from $2000 to $5600. It seemed as though the price went up with experience, CNM-status (as opposed to CPM or other), and having an office outside the MW's home.
HTH!

My midwife charges $4000, of which I have to pay 20% ... so I pay $800 out of pocket. Oh, and I also had to pay her $300 at the first appointment.

It looks like I may be using a mw out of Sacramento and she charges 4,000
Birth kit is $60

Have no idea what prenatals cost.

In Idaho we paid 1,800 and $60 for the birth kit

Our insurance doesn't cover mw's :

Am surprised that 2 of the other poster who live in Cal that have cheaper mw's Though 4'000 was the average price in Cal for a mw.

Here in Iowa, my mw -- who is independent, but only births at hospitals -- charged $2500. Insurance didn't cover HER fees, but did cover labs and hospital stays. I also had to pay a "covering doctor fee" for being a VBAC, $200 out of pocket. (Yes, a complete crock.) There's a mw who does HB in town, but she's not an option (she doesn't VBAC), so I don't know what she costs.

I feel my mw was worth every penney...I just wish insurance would pay for it!

My midwife (I could be pregnant RIGHT NOW, I'm not sure yet!) will charge $3800 + driving fees. She's worth about 100k, in my opinion. I'll try to get ins to cover some of it but if they don't, we'll pay her somehow.

In Northern Virginia, the midwife services are about $2500. That's how much I'm paying for mine, but I've seen a few for less and a few for more. I don't remember how much the kit is because I'm not far along enough to buy it yet.

Here in Long Island, NY, midwives are hard to find. Mine charges $5,995. I am lucky that my insurance pays 80% of this, after I pay a $600 deductible. My total cost out-of-pocket is about $1,750. This is for a birth at a hospital birth center. There will be a separate charge for the hospital - I do not yet know what it is.
