Hemp fleece inserts- Need some help w/the details...

Hi! This is my first time exploring this forum.
A sewer I am not, but I think I can handle inserts.

I have some 2-layer hemp fleece trifolds that I'm not loving.
My dd always has leaks with just hemp, and the trifolds are too bulky to combine with a microfiber insert in her pockets.

I'm thinking of converting them into 4-layer contoured inserts.

I read that 3 layers is the max recommended.
I tried a 4-layer sample and my only complaint is long drying time.

I put all the layers fleecy side up and it seems to absorb better. Has anyone else noticed a difference?

I'd appreciate any input on my novice sewing project!
Thanks

Fleece side up is nice for a while, but it will get rougher with time. Have you had your inserts for a long time? Is the leaking a new problem? When I make a trifold with hemp I usually use 2 layers (resulting in a soaker 6 layers thick).
If your pockets are microfleece and your inserts are hemp and you're having leaks, you might try stripping them all.

I have made a few 4 layers thick. They do take longer to dry and I noticed they also got "buildup" twice as quick as the 3 layers. Other than that, they are holding up as long as my 3 layer ones

I've always had problems with hemp alone leaking.
(It may be fast peeing, as others describe.)
If I put microfiber on top, they absorb beautifully.

The inserts have probably been washed 10-20x. No buildup issues.

I'm not worried about the fleece staying soft. They're going inside pockets.

How about if I try 2 sets of 2 layers, just attached at the front and back?
