My thirteen year old is going on a mission trip!

To the Gulf Coast!!!! Our church has gone four times since Katrina hit. This will be the fifth trip. We have "adopted" two families down there, and our church has been instrumental in getting one family back into their home. Including giving them over $5,000 for a new furnace. My daughter has wanted to go every time but I just wasn't comfortable with it. Other kids were going, but only if a parent was also going. But this time my dad has decided to take a week off work and go, so I gave her permission. This is going to be such a *huge* experience for her, and quite honestly I soooo wish I could go too. Anyone want to take care of my other two kids so I can go?

If I wasn't working I'd say drop 'em at my house on your way down.

Although, my cousin is expecting and out of work and she might do help me out (if she got paid for her time).

Just a thought. They'd be 6 hours from the coast here, so you could come up if needed. How long -- for a week?

Just let me know. I'm only HALF joking. I'd have to talk to my DH about it.

Wow! What a great experience for her, how proud you must be for her even wanting to go!

very cool... i got jealous this year cuz the teens and some adults from my church went on a mission trip to hungary and romania to help put some missionaries we support who work with the gypsies. i wanted to go so bad, but i had to work, and dh was deployed so there was no one to take care of the dog...

anyway mission trips are awesome, i hope she has fun

That is great. My son got to help clean up at a scout camp in the Katrina devastaed area last spring. It was an incredible experience. Sallie

Thanks everyone! She is really, really excited about it, and I'm so excited for her! Like a lot of teens, she can be a bit self-absorbed at times (who isn't, right?!) and I think this will be a great way for her to really focus on others.

And I PMd you, Jennifer - - - I was just joking about having someone watch my kids, but you are soooo sweet to consider it!

GOOD FOR ALL OF YOU!

You are willing to let her go and YOU want to go to!

Wanna bring the others here? I'm in ARK!
