Want to make a pocket diaper

I have a pattern for an AIO or fitted diaper that I bought from a lady on ebay, and I have been making diapers with it. I am VERY new to sewing but I am getting the hang of it, and the last couple of diapers I am actually not embarrassed to show. I have really been wanting to make a pocket diaper. Is there an easy way to modify the pattern I already have? Do I just leave an opening in the back, or does the opening need to have elastic, too? I have seen a couple of web sites with instructions but they are with a different pattern, and obviously for people with some sewing experience.

It is really easy to adapt. I prefer back closing diapers and do the method here: http://www.sewdiapers.com/showthread.php?t=15

It is not necessary to add elastic to the inner pocket depending on your fabric. If you are using nonstretchy flannel or other cottons like sherpa you can just hem or zigzag the inner fabric, and you don't have to do anything with microfleece or suedecloth. Just cut the outer fabric with the 1 inch piece on top from where your elastic should go, and tack in your elastic with a 3 step-zigzag, then turn and topstitch it down.

I use velour for my inners and if I don't put elastic in then it curls and drives me crazy. Plus I think elastic in both sides looks really nice and professional. Once you do this a time or two it becomes so easy.

You can also make an opening in the middle or front by overlapping your inner fabric. I don't like this because sometimes the fabric curls up and that annoys me. I just prefer back pockets myself. I made some front stuffing pockets but they were more difficult to stuff since the front was more narrow than the back.

Pockets are SO easy to do, once you get the hang of them! I think the back opening is easiest for a beginner too.
