Taking my 6 year old to a concert?

There is an all ages show I wanted to go to (lifetime and 108 are playing for you punk/indie/hardcore mamas), right around my son's 7th birthday... I'm thinking I might take him. He would LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Would he be okay if I get him some good ear protection?

For sure! DS (6) has been going to concerts since he was an infant. If you go to your local hardware store they'll have the construction workers' ear protection. We use the ear muffs for most concerts, but for stadium rock we add in the wax ear plugs (muffs overtop).

ITA. Get some earplugs, and have fun. We often go to concerts.

Go. Have fun. Just stay away from the big speakers. We have taken ds (5) to many concerts. We usually go to outdoor ones and stay away from the speakers. Ds loves to dance!!!!

For indoor concerts make sure it is smoke-free. You don't want him to spend hours inside a smoky room.

the show is being held at the community college. i really doubt they allow smoking.

Cute story:

the first concert I took ds to was a Dead show in 2004. We were waiting to go into the show when a little boy (about 7) came up to ds, who was 4 at the time

little boy: hey man, is this your first show?
ds: yes
me: is it yours?
little boy: no, I have been going to shows since I was a baby
little boy to ds: you're gonna love it man, have a great show (and patted him on the back)

it was too cute!

I vote to take him, just don't sit near the front or any speakers.

My dd1 went to a big outdoor concert when she was a year old. She sat on our blanket, eating Cheerios and dancing.

Last year I took dd1 and dd2 (then 9 and 5) to a six hour indoor concert. It was a little loud, even though we weren't too close. We just took frequent breaks in between sets, and walked out to the concession area where it wasn't loud at all.

I am ALL about music and think concerts are great for kids if you watch the loudness.

it's not going to be a huge concert... it's a smallish show at a community college. i actually used to go to shows there before i got married and had kids.

I was so bummed that I didn't take my kids (at least my older kids) to the last concert I went to- they would've had so much fun.
