this WIC worker made me LOL, and I just had to share!

I had a WIC apointment on thursday, at which they told me I needed to bring my DDs vaccination sheet. I stated very simply "we have a vaccine exemption, so I will not be bringing a vaccine record." The worker just sort of looked at me funny, and then at DD and said in a shocked tone "shes not vaccinated?!!" to which I said "no." (and this is the funny part) the worker then says "and shes HEALTHY?!!!"
my DD is only 5 months old, so she would have gotten what, two rounds of shots by now? Even if I did believe vaccines worked, that would have made me LOL that she implied that since my DD missed two rounds of shots that she should be dropping dead with diseases at the moment.
I wanted to reply with one of 3 snarky replies:
1. "well, she recently started injecting drugs and having unprotected sex, so I do regret not giving her a hep B shot at birth....they grow up so quickly these days...."
2. "yep, perfectly healthy. oh except for this giant pussing boil...do you think this is abnormal?"
or 3. "do you ask that to all the moms who formula feed too?"

but instead I just laughed and said "uh yeah, shes very healthy...."

ok, done sharing now.

No kidding! Do they say to all the FFers... "And she's HEALTHY???" when they find out that they're putting their child at risk for a myriad of diseases?

I like answer number 1, personally...but then she would've called CPS.

Natch, 'cause these diseases lurk at every corner! How could an infant make it to the ripe old age of 5 months with out the shots? :

WIC just irriates me. I went in when ds2 was 8 mo old. They couldn't believe I was still bfing and did not want to give me the bfing mom's food coupons. And to top it off, I was looking at going back to work b/c dh had lost his job... They had a room full of Lactina's some 30+ units and didn't offer me one to borrow at all!!!

I reported the intake girl to the WIC top lady in the state who was also working with LLL at the time to promote BFing. The intake girl was repremanded and not happy the next time she saw me!

I refused to allow them to take blood from my kids on religious grounds and they were so stunned, they were speechless. I was told I would have to sign a form, no form every appeared before me to sign.

My dh did get another job, so I could continue to stay home. I fortunately never needed the Lactina, but how many other mom's could benefit from money spent by our county on Lactinas that are not even offered???

That is terrible! I've had nothing but good experiences from WIC, but from everyone's experiences here I guess I'm lucky.

I am stunned at just how many personal accounts I have read on MDC about WIC undermining BF'ing mothers and even reprimanding them for continuing to BF. Does anyone have any theories on why this would be?

Mamamoose, I love all your "hypothetical" answers. I always think of the best snappy comebacks....after the fact. A day late and a dollar short, as it goes.

Maybe the other children in the office who are not vaccinated are not vaccinated because they are sick - preemies or have leukemia, or something...
Otherwise, what does she really think 1-2 doses is really gonna do (out of the 5 suggested doses)?

People don't think before they open their mouths. This is generally true, but you can multiply by about 7 when it comes to questions of vaxing!
