Who wrote these books?

Okay, I used to do data entry while in college. We all used to check out books on tape from the library and pass them around. We listened to multiple books by this one author - they were a series. The books were pretty much fluff, but they were very enjoyable to read, and let's just say - I need some fluff in my life right now! Anyway, I can't for the life of me remember the author or characters name. I just KNOW somebody here can help me though. They were mystery books. The character was an older lady (sort of an unlikely hero type) who was a spy. The one I remember off the top of my head is one where she went to China and was supposed to meet her contact there. She was with a tour group and the obnoxious young man was her contact. This ringing any bells for anyone? Help, please!!!

Mrs. Pollifax

By Dorothy Gilman

I those books. You should also read Agatha Christie's Miss Marple and her Tommy and Tuppence books if you're feeling like fluff and enjoy Gilman.

She beat me to it... We had an old set of Reader's Digest condensed books that had Mrs. Pollifax books in them and I loved them. Think maybe I need to re-visit them now.
